Camera Recommendations - Cheap and Good

Hi all,

Looking to take up a bit of recreational photography. Just for my own interest, not for any commercial things or anyhting like that.

What sort of camera would you recommend for me? THe only camera I've ever owned before was a cheap point and click job. Been looking at these DSLRs and whilst they seem to have amazing picture quality, they aren't exactly cheap.

I want to be able to take decent photos though, and I guess that might be difficult with the cheaper point and click ones?

So does anyone know of any good dslrs (or even good pocket sized ones) that takes good photos, is reasonably cheap (300 or so max) and is good for beginners?

Many thanks in advance.
