Advice wanted!!

Hi All

My wife started up portrait photography a couple of months back and she is really getting into now. To start her off I got a cheap Fuji 5600 which is OK however she now feels a bit restricted with this camera. She now wants a better camera and one that she can use a remote shutter release with.

I am not sure if it is worth stepping up to a full DSLR or staying with a bridge camera, e.g Fuji S9600.

Any advice would be helpful

P.S I would have a budget of about £200 - £250 to buy a second hand unit

See post 373. A200 + 70-300mm APO DG Macro lens.

AVF Sony Alpha thread pt 4

Remote switch @ £2.99 delivered from evilBay. Works a treat (even on my A700).

Re: Advice wanted!!

I had a sneaky look inside a portrait shop in town the other day just to see their layout. They were using a Nikon D60. I reckon you could pick one up quite cheaply now.

Re: Advice wanted!!

If the Fuji is not camera enough, and she's finding it limiting only within a couple of months I think by far the best option is to go DSLR; at least then in the medium to long term you only need upgrade lenses or body than a whole system again.

The budget is somewhat restrictive - I would maybe put out a call for 'wanted' on the classifieds section here and see what you can pick up as used gear. For a bit more money you could look at the Sony A200 - widely regarded as the best value entry DSLR.

Thanks for your response

Her main problem is not having the ability to use a remote shutter release. It can be difficult photographing kids while you are stuck directly behind the camera.

I know that my budget is retrictive hence why I am not sure if the step up to DSLR is right thing to do

I do have my eye on a couple of threads on the FS boards, so I shall see if I can get something for a good price

Re: Advice wanted!!

D50 is a fine camera to start with! Toward the end of its life with me, i was always underexposing shots by -1 stop, seem to get a good balance.
