Thanks: Gave 0, Got 2 | D300 to Archos 605
Does anyone out there know if it is possible to download the images from the CF memory card in the Nikon D300/200 directly into an Archos 605? I was thinking about using the 605 as a storage / viewing device whilst out working. I would also have no need to buy more memory cards when the images have been transferred.
Thankyou in advance.

Hopefully there IS a way, as it'll help me a lot, when on holiday!

I have an old Archos AV560 which has saved me from boredom on many an occasion and is used most days. I had a special lead included that allows you to connect a small USB device to it for transfering files back and forward so I just took a quick Raw and jpeg on my Pentax and hooked it up a few minutes ago after seeing this thread.
Works fine from camera to Archos, a bit slow and mine cannot read raw files but I can store them and view the jpegs with no problem.

Thankyou in advance. | Doesn't the 605 come with a DVR docking station with USB connector? DVR thingy

Mike, thanks for your help.
Mipevo6, it did come with a docking stn and USB connection but it is a large plug and won't fit the cam.
I don't think this is going to work for me because I shoot in RAW and the 605 won't accept RAW as an input. It was worth a try though. I might have a look at one of those Jobo Giga jobbers and see what they can handle (or maybe an Epson).

I shoot raw but if need be can do Raw+ which is both file types so can view the Jpegs while storing the raw.

I used a travel adapter and a memory card reader, just simple plug and play process to transfer across. I copied the D300 folder over and then renamed it once done. After i confirmed that all the files had copied across i was free to reformat the CF card.
My 504 can't read RAW or jpegs from the D300 as they are too big, but as a storage device its very easy.
One funny thing i found was that i put the cf card in the memory card reader first, then pluged into the Archos it worked fine.
If i plugged in the reader, then the card, it came up with 'usb device not recognised'.
I even managed to store my video files (.mts) from the SD9 (unreadable of course). I ran out of hdd space quite quickly though!

I have used my girlfriend's Archos 605 to back up photos on holiday and then was so impressed with the screen quality, I bought one for myself to use as backup and as a photo viewer!
If you have a battery dock or travel dock for the Archos, connect that to the Archos and connect the cable from your camera to the USB input on the dock. The Archos will recognise your camera as an external device and you can begin the transfer. I have not tried it with RAW but cannot see that being a problem, although, as has been said, the Archos won't be able to display RAW images.

Thankyou all for your replies. The CF card reader option seems to be the way to go I reckon. I'm not bothered about viewing the RAW images as I can set the cam to shoot in JPEG aswell and use them as an indication. Transferring straight from the camera USB doesn't work.
I am now going to go down to my friendly camera shop with a CF card and my Archos and see if we can come up with a solution. I'll let you know how I get on.

Problem solved. Went into Currys knowing they sold Archos equipment and CF readers. They were selling off their old Archos Gen 5 equipment CHEAP. Picked up the "mini dock" for £4.99. Comes with mains charger, USB lead, AV transfer cable. Connected it all up. Switched the cam and the 605 on and Bob's your uncle, Instany reading and file transfer capability.
Thankyou all for your assistance.
