Do you print any of your photos?

Hi All
its been nearly nine months since I got my Dslr and have taken over 8000 shots and todate, I think I have only printed 3.

So I'm thinking what is the point in shooting so many and not having any to look at.I do back up to an external HDD and to DVD but as said only 3 printed.I must add that most of the 8000 or so have ended up in the recycle bin.

So what do you guys n girls do, its fine having it all backed up but when you want to show your pics off its a bit a pain having to plug the HDD dive in or play the DVD.So I'm thinking maybe pick out my best and start putting them in albums.

Thoughts would be appreciated

Re: Do you print any of your photos?

I have over the past few weeks been to a BTCC meeting and the F1 and printed around 40 photos from those events, some 4x6 some 5x8 and some A4 I kept some and a few of my mates mounted a few of them and put them up.... ( they must be mad ) but i always download a chunk of them to the Digital photo frames i have around the house.... and I always do the same with holiday photos, this year i even created a holiday book online......

This was one of the ones i just had to print.....

Re: Do you print any of your photos?

I will only print if I'm going to put in a frame and hang on the wall or
Print family pics to give to grandparents etc

Now just use online web albums its so much easier.

Re: Do you print any of your photos?

Almost given up printing photographs now. My PC is hooked up to 1920x1080 digital projector in another room so it is a matter of moments to view pictures almost 6 ft across. This how I usually show pictures to friends, but in a darkened room and with a glass of wine at hand they do nod off occasionally......

Re: Do you print any of your photos?

Yes, only printed if I want to frame one for the wall, although ages ago I did spend time printing a lot of my best shots at A4 size and putting those in a portfolio type thing, haven't updated that for a long time though!

I mostly just use flickr to share photos with friends and if I want to show them to friends or family at home then I put the images on my Playstation and we look at them on the tv.

Re: Do you print any of your photos?

haha I was in your situation a while back. Get 8 or so of your faves. Make sure you've edited them to perfection (or at least until you are happy). Just get it over with, take them to Jessops (very good printers), ask for the Matte finish medium size ones (you'll do it on the little computer in the shop) and you'll be very happy. There is nothing like seeing a proper print of your photos.

Re: Do you print any of your photos?

I tend to get 10x8 prints of the photographs i really like.
Though erm i have 417 photographs downstairs waiting to go into picture book.
There is something special about seeing your photographs in print, i guess it's being able
touch them physically that does it for me. Web albums are nice and everything but they just
don't have the same feel to them as physical prints do.

Re: Do you print any of your photos?

I've got the portfoilo, I print off to A4 size selected shots. I also stick a few in a frame for display. I would do more but thats just vanity!

It nice to look back at some prints and think i did that, plus, i can see a marked improvement in my ability. (that and better kit....)

Mainly family stuff or photo's requested by my subjects..

Re: Do you print any of your photos?

I've printed a few which I hang up on the walls. I tend to rotate the photos every 6 months or so and put some new ones up.

Re: Do you print any of your photos?

I used to wait for photobox's BOGOF offers and get a load of 8 x 12s but these days I just get them done as and when. You really can't beat having your best ones in print... they seem far more real than they do on a monitor.

Yeah that's another thing, being able to see your progress is great and I think it actually helps to teach you how to distinguish the good from the mediocre.

Re: Do you print any of your photos?

My mum has shelves of photo albums from the last 30 years she never looks through. On the other hand I got her a digital photo frame last year and now she now has a constant scrolling selection of several hundred photos that she updates regularly. By the same token I use the Google Photos screensaver on my home machine that randomly selects photos from across my folders and I can guarantee every day I'll see at least one photo I haven't seen for ages.

The only time I think there's much point doing a digital print is if you're hanging it or giving it to someone else.

Re: Do you print any of your photos?

Thanks for all the replies
I think I'm going to start to get the best of the bunch printed, like it's been said you cant beat having the real thing in an album, also with them begin the best of what you think, folks who look at them will maybe think that you are quite good at this photo lark not realising that there are 50 times more that are (dont want to be told off again)
