Good Digital Camera for Indoor Pics?

Hi,

I recently became a dad and so my digital camera has become the most used gadget in the house.

I currently have a Exilim Casio 10MP but have found it doesn't take very good indoor shots especially when the lighting isn't that bright. The images come out alittle blurry and dark.

So I am looking to change the camera for something else, requirements are:

Budget - up to £220

Features - HD Recording, Good Indoor Portraits

So far people have suggested the following 2 cameras so if anyone owns these, then please can you let me know how they perform indoors with low light:

1) Limux TZ-7 (I know it's alittle more than my budget, but if it can fulfill my requirements then I'm willing to pay that little extra)

2) Canon IXUS 100 IS

Also, I have been thinking about SLR cameras, but know very little about them, I'm not fussy about the size of the camera, as it will be mainly used around the house - any recommendations?

Thanks in advance...

Re: Good Digital Camera for Indoor Pics?

Get a DSLR and forget the HD recording
or
Get the Panasonic
The advantage of the DSLR is wayy improved speed of capture and much better low light photography than your current camera
The advantage of the Lumix.. better all round than the Exilim in essesnse
However is size is not a problem a small DSLR will tick te boxes
another to consider is Panasonics G1

The G1 is alittle out of my price range at over £400. Can you recommend a DSLR for around the £200 mark? Something that's easy to use?

The cheapest new DSLR with kit lens is the Sony A200 which is £260 at Argos and John Lewis. If that's too much money then DSLR isn't for you because that £260 may well be the tip of the iceburg.

Meaning lenses ect
I would still get it or starters and then the additional stuff can be bought as time goes on
The Built in flash and ability to adjust ISO beyond 400 ( and software to sort any noise) make it well worth considering
Also because the Sony has intergrates IS you might be able to get away with handheld slow shutter speeds and capture lw light images OK
Otherwise Im far from brand loyal (I use Nikon and Canon)

Re: Good Digital Camera for Indoor Pics?

if the tz7 is out of your budget, why not go for the earlier tz5 or tz6?

Re: Good Digital Camera for Indoor Pics?

If you want a decent indoor low light performer I would recommend the Fuji 200EXR, excellent for HDR and low light indoor photo's. Just doesn't have HD recording, only average quality 640x480.
