70-300mm Macro - Sigma or Tamron

I know they're budget lenses but budget is all I can do at the moment. Does anyone have any experience of either of these lenses? They're both in the same sort of price range, just wondered if the quality was any different.

Re: 70-300mm Macro - Sigma or Tamron

All I can say is that I have the Tamron and am quite happy with it.

Pic examples can be seen on my flickr site and a few showing it's zoom capability

Lens / Focal Length Comparison - a set on Flickr

Hope this helps.

Re: 70-300mm Macro - Sigma or Tamron

I have the Sigma.. its fine
I imagine they are a much of muchness
If I had to buy on now I would make sure it had IS (or VR) .. worth saving for long end of the Zoom handheld is hit or miss

Re: 70-300mm Macro - Sigma or Tamron

Yeah the IS/VR lenses are a bit of a step up - a fair bit more money though. Wouldn't be without my Nikon 70-300VR even though I also have a 300mm f/4 prime, the VR and the flexibility of the zoom makes it an ideal walkabout wildlife lens.
