Nikon D700 in stock

At Jessops. Too much money in my opinion. £1500-00 & I'd have jumped at one.

Good choice, I just do not see how or where the D700 fits into the schema of things, it cannot be worth double a D300 or conversely the D300 is an absolute steal and it should be at least £500 more.

If you are going to spend that much then buy a D3.

Re: Nikon D700 in stock

It seems that Jessops' website doesn't marry up with itself...

clicky

The price will soon drop anyway. It always takes about a couple of months to get to a more reasonable level.

Edit: Ah your link included a lens!

It's still £2000.00 without the lens

Re: Nikon D700 in stock

£1690 at RGB Tech. Much better. Clearly better for low light work than a D300 and smaller, cheaper and lighter than a D3. Slots right in for me.

The D300 is clearly aimed at the wedding market. Have you not seen the Nikon brochure?

Also, the weight issue over the D3 is a big thing for older people who cant manage the weight. The same applied to the 5D - to me, often mooted as a bumble bee/bottom of the garden camera it found a niche market. I suspect the D700 will as well.

Finally, the D3 hammers the ISO of the D300. Thats a fact. Thus the D700 will be a truly great camera.

Pete.

Re: Nikon D700 in stock

So ditch the d300 and save up a load of extra pennys to buy the D700.
I take it that it is better for portable photography.Motorsport, bikes, gigs?
Is it just as good as the D3?

Up to you.
Depends on how heavy you consider the D3 to be. I cant use small cameras.
Yes, I suspect it will be.

D300 may be better for motorsport on a tighter budget, the DX mode gives better reach on your lenses. However the higher ISO would be better for gigs and most everything else.
Ideal world would be a D3 and D300 for me, but then Id have to use em

Well it's a couple of hundred less than double the D300 - so the D300 is better value, but so it should be, it wasn't released this week. In a few months the price difference will be lower.

So the D700 came out this week, so for a while it is not going to be as good value as it will be in a few months. And even so, can you buy a D3 in the UK for within £1000 of a D700? That £1000 is a lot to most of us.

Re: Nikon D700 in stock

I reckon it will be down to about £1300ish by January next year if the D300 is anything to go by, the D300 has dropped from £1300 when it first came out to about £960 now, it's dropped £100 since February this year

Re: Nikon D700 in stock

I will have to wait till its been out and people who own them can give good feedback.
I am heading to the states next summer so It will be about that time that I come to buy D300/700 or a D3.
Im a ideal world,I would go out and buy them all but I can so at present I will continue to shot away with my d50.
It brillant for all that I do the now and maybe by next summer I will be able to justify and use one of them too its full ability.

Re: Nikon D700 in stock

Doubt it'll drop that much beachy.

D300 has droped about 25% from its RRP, the D700 RRP is 2000, so 1500 is about the lower limit for ages.

Re: Nikon D700 in stock

Much will depend on supply and demand. It looks like Nikon has, in the last year, sorted out their supply channels and there will be enough D700s for those willing to buy at £1999. RGB Tech are selling at £1689 already and that's where I'm buying from. Give it 3 months and I think most will be at £1650-1750 with the D3 settling at £2600 or so.

A well priced 5D II could force a lower price depending on how Canon spec it.

But let's not forget that at £2k the D700 is still £300 less than the 5D was at launch and it's a far better specced camera.
