For Stills, I would suggest that they are comparable technologies, with the CMOS sensors using less power and ( as implemented initially by Canon but now more widely adopted) able to achieve less noise with lower light higher ISO
Im not suggesting the low light better performance is a sensor only thing though
As an Aside, Canons Sure Shot Pro one ( with an 8mp ( Sony sourced CCD) and a very decent L lens and Digic processor had more noise in low light compared to the Canon DSLR 350D which equally had an 8Mp CMOS: this may have been due to the physical size of the sensors but comparisons were made At the time
Some have suggested (perhaps tounge in cheek that CMOS sensors are cheaper to make and it is this economic that ave led to their wider adoption ) but given that higher end cameras have CMOS, it may be a loose argument.
For video the story is a bit more complicated . Some industry "wise gurus?" have stated that they will never touch CMOS equipped camcorders are they are inherently inferior. This view is not shared by all thier peers though

Note too that there are Camcorders costing the price of a small family car, with CMOS sensors
