London Motorshow & Photography

I am planning to go to the motorshow at the excel centre in Lodon next week, just want to know if photography is allowed inside? I shall be bringing my Sony A350 Dslr. Any tips to how to shoot the cars on display? Cheers.

Re: London Motorshow & Photography

I went a couple of years ago and yes, photography is allowed inside.
The problem is that there are so many people swarming over the cars that it is difficult to get a nice shot. Take your widest lens with you so that you can get close and you just have to be patient for people move on.

Personally I got far more keepers from the Watersports going on outside on the river:

So a long lens is also worth taking with you.

So you expect us to believe you went to the motor show to take pictures of the cars, eh

Re: London Motorshow & Photography

I'm planning to head down this weekend too, and it's good to hear that they don't mind photography there.

Someone mentioned that the light might be dull sometimes. Is that true? Can't really imagine cars on display with dull lighting. I'm planning to bring my 50mm with me regardless which will help.

Re: London Motorshow & Photography

Yeah some stands use low light levels to try and create a bit of ambience with doesn't help with your shutter speeds.
The main problem is that using flash makes the cars look awful (and there's no ceiling to bounce from either) and you wouldn't stand a chance of using a tripod in there, so upping the ISO is really the only option. IS really helps too since the cars aren't going anwhere!

Ah ok ... I'll leave the flash at home then. Thanks for the tip.

Re: London Motorshow & Photography

Im going tomorrow, and taking my A350 too Just going to take my kit 18-70 lens.

I went last time with my point n click, n agree the lighting was poor on some stands but hopefully this time with a better camera will have some success

Re: London Motorshow & Photography

Looking forward to the show in London, and hope to capture some nice pics of both the cars and people at the show. I might struggle though with the low light and not so fast 'Kit lens', but will take the trusted Minolta 50mm f1.7 along too.
