just a question about whats the best budget flash or macro light i should get for macro on small insects.

is flash better than macro lights or led lights?

anyone suggest a cheaper alternative.

my current in built flash is not up to the job for macro.

Budget and macro flash are not words that go in the same sentence.

Both Canon and Sigma do dedicated macro flash units, but they are not cheap.

You could try getting a good quality torch, preferably one that allows you to focus the beam, and use that to light the subject.

I use a home made diffuser for my on board flash for macro. It works fairly well for fill light.

Extension tubes limit the amount of light entering the lens. A torch as I suggested above may help.
