Macro of little green frog

Have been playing around with a 2x macro teleconverter I bought off Ebay for £25 and thought I would post a sample.
The first picture is with a standard 50mm F1/7 manual lens.
The second is with the teleconverter attached.(focus is just a tad off though)

Both are at maximum focus and neither picture is cropped in any way.

It actually does a pretty good job of turning a bulk standard lens into a 1:1 macro.

What do you think?

This one was done with the converter and a Tamron 90mm macro.

Focus is well off, they were all done hand held and I really need to get an external flash but you get the general idea.

So using it with a 1:1 macro lens am I going Micro?

Again, no cropping.

I can see a clear plane of focus in the tamron shot. Maybe a little soft but its hard to tell in this subject.

Interesting test. If you take a photo of the cm scale of a ruler at 1:1 we can easily see the exact magnification you're getting.

How easy is it to handle?

Can these teleconverters be perchased from a shop just as cheap or are they just sold on ebay?

I will have a go with a ruler later today and see what scale I am getting.
To be honest its a pig to handle as I am doing everything manually including the lens aperture so as soon as I step down I can hardly see a thing through the viewfinder.
I may invest in a macro adapter with the "A" setting so that I can use AV mode on the camera properly and actually see what I am doing and then I can just concentrate on the focus.

Its only that cheap because its an old manual everything Ricoh teleconverter and is about 20 years old (at a guess). I had to take it apart and remove the Ricoh locking pin as it actually got stuck on my Pentax and it took me hours of frustration to get it off. (A well known proplem with Ricoh lenses on Pentax bodies I have since found out ).
