Camera Malfunction - advice sought

My sister owns a Fuji FinePix E550 P&S digital camera. Some photos come out fine while others come out like this.

It was faulty from day one and producing the same results. Fuji took it back and fixed it. It has worked fine for almost a year up until now.

Is anyone here able to diagnose what exactly is wrong with the camera by the photo posted?

Thanks

It was purchased in America and it was a real pain to get Fuji to fix it the first time. And it was a gift from someone special so she'd rather have it fixed if possible.

Re: Camera Malfunction - advice sought

Seems like a hardware fault here
Unless it can be fixed under
Warrantee or an affordable cost
It could be anything from a faulty sensor ( most likely) to a corruption in the digital image processing chip
It does look to be a lovely camera but a quick google search shows it to be a 3 1/2 year old model with reconditioned ones selling at $150 ..
2 things
Why are there so many reconditioned ones for sale.. is it because is good enough to still attract buyers?
How much less than a reconditioned one will it cost to fix it?
