It's a toss up at the moment - I would like A Nikon D80, but at nigh on £500 for the body alone - it's a bit pricey at the moment - Hope it comes down a bit.
I thought the Canon 400D looked a bit plasticky and the 18-55mm lens kit has not got good reviews.
The Sony A100 has come down a lot in price and together with the Samsung GX10, both look good deals at present. I'm not in a huge hurry to buy just yet, but want to get a good 10MP DSLR for around 500 quid including lenses.
Do you have problems changing lenses and getting dust in the sensor with the Sony ??
Thanks

Ahoy DPB1 . . .
The short answers are . . no and not really.
For £500 with the current Argos price for the Alpha, you have plenty left for new and used lenses, so that's no issue at all.
As for dust, the sensor is protected with a film covering, so IF you did get dust on it, the sensor wouldn't be harmed. Sony's anti-dust system kicks-in when the camera is switched off. Also the mirror covers the sensor. Best thing is to leave a lens attached.
I don't know if that's what you wanted to know.
I have had one issue with a blob appearing on images. I used a puffer blower and the problem went.
