Hello, another newbie here!

Hello,

Having been lurking for a couple of days and following StaffsBen's lead, I have signed up to the forum and even got as far as putting 139 pics on Flickr, so comments welcome.

I use: Nikon F5 (some of my shots were taken using a F80 and the Thai made lens that was supplied with it).

Nikon 17-35 f 2.8
Nikon 105mm macro (only ever used to take a few pics of my daughter's hands and feet when she was a new born but a good enough excuse to blag the purchase)
Nikon 80-200 f 2.8

I generally use Velvia 50 and my thoughts first turned to digital when Fuji announced that production was stopping.

I scan my slides / negs using a Coolscan IV. but don't usually mess around with the colours etc. because I don't know how to! A D300 is the aim, however, I will be gutted to lose the wide angle of the 17mm.

My pics can be found here:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/22455745@N07/

As it is the bog standard account I could only use 3 sets of pics and then I couldn't be bother trying to annotate each of them. If Flickr is worth paying for (comments?) then maybe I will. I'd rather create my own website but finding the time is the problem.

Hope that's enough info. for now.

Congrats Tobers on your 'big win'. Wish I could do something like that.

These smilies are great!

Cheers

Paul

Paul,

Welcome

Just looked through your flickr, all I can say is wow.. some really awesome shots..

Quite jealous of how well travelled you are.. I hope to get to travel a bit in the future, I want to wait on doing anything big until I feel I am capable with my camera...

Looking forward to seeing more shots, especially once your over on to digital!

Cheers,
R

Re: Hello, another newbie here!

Yeah I'm really wanting to save up and travel to loads of different places too, so well done for that. Most of your shots are excellent, I look forward to seeing more of your pictures in the coming months...

Re: Hello, another newbie here!

I forgot to say that if theres one tip I have for everybody it is to back up your photos.

When my HD crashed I lost loads of pics that I had scanned, thankfully I have the slides, but I also lost loads of snaps that I took with a small Canon Ixus that we have. Most of the lost pics were of our daughter in her first few months and my wife was not happy (nor was I, but not quite as upset as my wife!)

Anyway, this was meant to be a reply saying I'll try and find the time to scan a few more in the coming weeks.

Re: Hello, another newbie here!

Welcome

Senu, I think 'we have ways of spending your money' is the avforums mission statement I daren't look in the projector and hidef forums for at least another year or upgraditis will strike, and my long suffering girlfriend WILL kill me.

pieeater - good advice on the backup issue. I have to worry about it for a living, and get enough HDD crashes to have a healthy paranoia. I backup onto a pair of 750Gb external drives at home these days. btw I'm jealous to death of the 17-35 - I gather it's still the best landscape lens even on cropped bodies. In the glorious tradition of this forums, I can also start spending your money for you...Tokina recently announced an 11-16mm f2.8 but it'll probably be about £500, and knowing Tokina a bit high on the CA. It'll dovetail with your 17-35 nicely though
