Brand New Fugi S5700 isn't detected by PC :(
I've been harping on at my wife for ages about getting a digital camera and she finally cracked and bought me a Finepix S5700 for christmas. It's great and I love it but I can't get it to connect with my PC.. well, after the first time at least.
I've tried the usual stuff like un-installing reinstalling the software/drivers but it's not recognised at all when switched on and plugged in (even with no drivers, windows doesn't detect and ask for a driver).
I'm not super technical but I can't think of anything else to try as I don't have a spare cable to try with or a spare PC to try the existing cable with.
Initaially It was detected by windows even though it came up with an error when trying to detect the hardware and I was able to transfer the 3 test pictures I had quickly taken. So I'm stumped and gutted in equal amounts.
Does anyone have any suggestions before I pursue the long road of technical support and/or returns?
cheers everyone,
arq

Can't really think of anything except to remove the memory card and use a card reader?
I'm sure someone will be able to give a few pointers on why it may not be working.

Re: Brand New Fugi S5700 isn't detected by PC :(
Sounds like the driver has installed badly, and your attempts to remove it have failed. I think this happened when you did the initial install that had the error.
If possible (and this is from memory), go to control panel, open up "system", go to "device manager" and get your list of devices up. You need to find the device entry relating to your camera and delete it. If you cant find it, you may need the camera plugged in to see it. The entry will probably have a little triangle with an exclamation mark or question mark in it.
Then remove the camera if it was plugged in, reboot, and then reinstall all the software. Only when that is OK without errors should you plug the camera in.
Might be worth seeing if there is an updted software version on the internet beforehand as well.
Hope this helps.

I should've have mentioned that I've already tried what you've suggested. To clarify - the camera isn't detected fullstop - anywhere - doesn't show in hardware manager etc.
USB is generally straight forward that why I'm stumped
thanks muchly for taking the time to reply though.

I don't think you will see your camera in Device Manager, I certainly can't see any of mine - Canon EOS 350 and Canon S5 IS.
After you download the software you probably have to set it so that the camera is recognised when you switch it on. Have you checked that the connection to the camera is fully inserted?

Yeah, all connections checked and it should appear in device manager (according to Samsung) It should also appear as a removable drive too from what I can glean from the instructions.

Could be a fault with the interface in the camera then.
Normally pretty much anything that should show up as an external hard drive does when plugged in, drivers or not.
As others have said, you could use a card reader or better still take the camera back and try another one.

Re: Brand New Fugi S5700 isn't detected by PC :(
It would be simpler to get a USB memory card reader and use it instead of tethering your Camera to the PC.
This may not answer why you have the problem but it will get your Images on the PC , much faster, and prevent the need to install yet more ( needless) software on the PC.
You could also download your images elsewhere without needing to use any software or need to connect up the camera to it
One other advantage is the fact that when using the camera.. you need a full battery to avoid any downloading errors !

Well, the missus got it for me and I love it but I'm pretty sure something isn't working as it should, I was mainly checking on here to make sure I was oblivious to something obvious.
I'll give Fuji tech support a call or get it swapped out at amazon. It's a pisser because it worked the first time then stopped after the camera turned itself off following the first trasfers. I guess it could be a dicey cable or summat but I have no spare to try with.
