Canon G9 - Which External Flash

Hi

I just replaced my Fuji S7000 with a Canon G9 and am wondering which external flash to get. It will be used for simply extending the range of the built in flash and perhaps some continuous indoor shots. I am leaning towards the Canon 220EX, but wonder if there is a non Canon unit that will do the same job.

Very pleased with the G9 in the 24 hours I have had it.

Thanks

Simon

Re: Canon G9 - Which External Flash

hi, congrats on the new gear :-) i'm currently using my g9 with a 580ex flash, although i already had that one for slr stuff. the flash that you mentioned should be ok as long as you can swivel the head and make the flash bounce off ceiling, etc. i'm not sure if you can use other brands of flash with the g9 though.

cheers

I know this was a long time ago that you posted this, but i'm also looking for a flash gun for my G9 and was wondering if you ended up getting the 220ex or something else?

hi dashfield, i would try and get the 430ex or a sigma flash gun as you then have flexibility to swivel the flash head and bounce the light of a ceiling/wall,etc. this gives you a much nicer light for portraits, etc.

Re: Canon G9 - Which External Flash

hi dashfield, the Sigma EF530 ST DG Flashgun should do the trick and this retails for around £115 at the moment. this offers bounce and swivel options capabilities to your flash photography.

i took the following shots yesterday with the canon g9 connected to an external flash. let me know if you need any more info.
