Lets hope you are going to just love it and it lives up to you expectations. Like anything else, if you are unfamiliar with it . . . READ THE MANUAL first.

Whilst you are doing that, charge up the battery. Have fun with it, post some images and perhaps write an opinion/review.

Wouldn't mind the 50 myself actually. FWIW Dennis, some tips:

1. Get a spare battery. Cheap generics on eBay have been OK for me.

2. Get at least 2 decent capacity reasonably fast memory cards. If you have one large one and it goes pear shaped, then you might lose all data. If you have 2, there will always be a backup. Lateral thinking here . . .

3. Get a set of lens filters (cheap enough on eBay). Fit the UV one and keep it on to protect the main lens. Only remove it to change filter type (if required).

4. Set the image stabilisation to MODE 2 (this will only activate OIS when shutter button is half depressed saving battery life). Only use MODE 1 for continuous focus/rapid fire shooting.

5. Set image quality to RAW (unless you are not familiar with the format or have a small capacity card, use JPEG Fine Mode).

6. Remember, the 50 has an external flash hot-shoe so you can get yourself a flashgun in due course. Much better than the pop-up. One recommendation would be the Sunpak Super 383. A diffuser would also be useful. Something for the Christmas list maybe?

Hi dennis, i got my fz50 about a month ago, and i got my bag off ebay, its a pannasonic one although if you ask me its a black bag with a pannasonic badge stuck on, but it looks great and is fine for me, i dont have any extra lenses etc, but it has side pockets and a zip up area at the front. i think its £12 ish on ebay just search fz50 bag, and it brings up 2 sellers that sell the same thing. But i only paid £6 long story....anyway have a look, and have fun with your camera.

Thanks ALL for those wonderful tips. I have already sent off for my SDHC 4GB card and surprisingly for me I have started to read the instruction book! Looking forward to getting started now.
