Study of a Beetle
Not sure if you folk know but I'm not a great fan of macros shots of creepy crawlies. I appreciate the technical excellence of them and the content is usually pretty amazing....but they really, really creep me out.
So I thought I ought to do my own study of a bug to help me overcome this irrational fear. Interested in comments on this one.

Re: Study of a Beetle
I like the 2nd the best, but the depth is a bit off putting, maybe go with a smaller aperture to get all of it in focus rather than it falling off. Just IMO obviously

Re: Study of a Beetle
Well impressed with the lighting technique. Was this 2 remote flash units?
Great shots too of course.

Re: Study of a Beetle
I actually wanted to blur some of them. I did drop f to around 18 for some others but haven't got round to looking at them yet. It's a balancing act with closing the iris and upping the flash power.....just trying lots of things to learn.

Re: Study of a Beetle
I'll post a shot tomorrow of the flash setup used for most of it. Just one flash. I tied two with the other firing at back wall but couldn't get the look I wanted to gave up in a huff as I needed to go do some other stuff.

Re: Study of a Beetle
Intresesting stuff Gordon. Nice to see some more experimentation.
I've sold 6 similar shots on Fotolia, including a VW camper might be worth a punt?
