Adding borders

I would like to add some plain borders to some of my photos but all the software i have downloaded only seem to add silly ones.
What's the best free software out there?
Thanks.

Re: Adding borders

You could do it yourself. Depending on how your software works, try something like:

Set background colour to the colour you want your border.
Increase the canvas size by 5 pixels all round.

Hey presto, a quick border. You could also do something a little more fancy like creating a 3 pixel white border, then a 1 pixel black border, and then another 3 pixel white border.

Just experiment and see what you come up with

Re: Adding borders

As Bursar pointed out, the simplest way is to increase the canvas size. Here's a pretty straightforward tutorial showing you how to do it and change the colour of the border too.
