A few pictures from the weekend

Hi all,

I went out on Saturday evening for a drive around to see what I could get, seeing as we finally had a nice day!

I first went down to Ness (on the Wirral) and took a few shots of the Dee estuary and then went on to the Flint bridge in North Wales and finished in Port Sunlight (it's amazing how time flies when your taking photographs )

I've posted a few here but all of the photos are in my Flickr set HERE

1) Ness Rocks

2) Ness Rocks 2

3) Bench

4) Silhouette

5) Light

6) Flint Bridge Approach

7) Sunset

8) Lady Lever Art Gallery

All comments and criticism welcome!

Cheers
Steve

Re: A few pictures from the weekend

Thanks stument, I really appreciate such nice comments

I'm glad you like them, I was hoping I could keep the detail in the pictures when I took them because the sunset was perfect!

Cheers

Re: A few pictures from the weekend

#4, #7 and #8 are the best of the lot IMO.

#4. My eye was nicely drawn to the out of focus bridge. I would have cropped the right hand side though as there isn't much going on there. Also, there appears to be a dark area running all the way down the extreme left side.

#7. Lovely shot, really like the reflection of the sun in the river. I might have been tempted to crop just abo0ve the sun to get rid of the wires and put the horizon on a stronger third position.

#8. Great reflections again. The main subject is under exposed due to the sky so maybe worth revisiting and taking some bracketed exposures and merging to HDR for that extra bit of detail

Re: A few pictures from the weekend

Thanks for the suggestions, I've just made a few modifications to #4 and #7 (I hadn't noticed the black bar on the left, think it must have been a fence post).

Are these a bit better?

Modified Sunset:

Modified Silhouette:

Personally speaking I much prefer the cropped versions, #7 especially

Re: A few pictures from the weekend

Thanks, all good advice. I tend to shy away from cropping images because they then move away from the 'standard' portrait or landscape layouts but I agree that these images work much better after cropping them.

Cheers

Some very nice images, the last two being my fav's. The cropping does improve them even more

Re: A few pictures from the weekend

Thanks, I might try cropping a few more of my images to see what effect it has on them.

Cheers

Re: A few pictures from the weekend

I don't mind at all! It's a Canon 400D with the 18-55mm kit lens.

Cheers
