High powered pc for design work

Hi,

I'm looking for a powerful pc for mainly design cad work inc hi-res image rendering, so graphics card must very good, as should the processor but i'm not too worried about storage as i've got an external drive already.

Saw the Dell XPS 8500 for £999 and it looked good, the one for £1299 looked better, but trying to stick to <1k

any suggestions?

Would u not be better looking a graphic workstation that comes with an Nvidia quadro gpu or the Amd firepro if it's for high ref image editing. The 7870 is a great card for gaming based on the reviews but won't really be any benefit when it comes to image rendering over something like a 6770. What software will you use?

Edited to add the dell cps has the 7870 card

Hi PmSonic

Did you manage to find a new PC and if so what did you go for and are you happy with your selection?

I too am looking for a CAD workstation that will handle large files with a good ability for rendering so am interested in how you got on?

Thanks
Richard

Went for the xps 8500 at £1198.99, working out really well and does more than needed. Intact pretty impressed with it!

Works great with hi res image rendering

Thanks for getting back to me, I did wonder if the graphics card may be the week link in this system so it's good to hear it copes with the high res rendering.

I will consider this system when choosing my next desktop, struggling to make my mind up after looking at sooooo many different machines!

Thanks again for your reply!
Richard

Male sure its got an NVidia card, as quite a lot of packages only hardware render via CUDA. Worth checking your software though just to see what cards it supports. It makes a massive difference speed wise.
