Recording DAB or Internet Radio via an EPG

Hi,
I'm looking round for a way to record some DAB or Internet radio broadcasts to listen to later (probably in the car via the iPod) as I'm often out when radio shows are on I want to hear.

I've seen that Pure do have a micro system that has an EPG and will record to SD card.

But before I go and spend that sort of cash is there anything software wise that I can get that has an EPG and will record the broadcast via my PC ?

I konw I can use the replay option if it's BBC radio, but that defets the objust of being able to play it in the car.

Cheers

I use a Freecom USB stick for just this purpose. It plugs in on USB, connects to Freeview via supplied or (preferably) house aerial and has an EPG which enables programmes to be recorded once or series, all for around £30. The only slight faff is that programmes are in MP2, so I use Switch converter to transfer to MP3 at 320kps to keep the quality up (I know MP3s are not that good but they sound better at this setting). I then transfer them to my iPod and listen next day on my commute, works a treat.

Can you explain a little more how this works please. You plug the USB stick into presumably the pc, how do you record then please. Alternatively there are numerous products that will record streaming audio.

I think the Pure Evoke 3 can recored on to an SD Card.

It also has an EPG on.

IF you want to recorde Internet Radio then Audacity will do this by the line in put on the PC.

Its free as well.

DAB broadcasts are poor quality anyway, most are transmitted at 128kbps so you're wasting your time converting to 320kbps.

Re: Recording DAB or Internet Radio via an EPG

I am doing what you want to do !

I use a Pure Evoke 3 DAB which has an SD card slot in which I use a 1GB card. I do not use the EPG as the Evoke 3 has a 20 event VCR type timer which is extremely easy to use. I will set it to record mainly the same radio prog each week, eg Bob Harris on Radio 2. I keep recording lengths to 1 hour so for the Bob Harris show which is 3 hrs long I have set the timer to record 2300-0000, 0000-0100 and 0100-0200.

I then remove the SD card and place it in a USB card reader attached to my PC and import the files to my music library in iTunes. I then highlight the files in iTunes, right click on the mouse where you get the option to convert the files to MP3 for playback on the Ipod. I then put the progs into a folder in my Playlists, and then sync with my Ipod. I can then listen to time shifted radio progs anywhere I want.

Re: Recording DAB or Internet Radio via an EPG

Hi,
sorry for not replying earlier I've been away with work.

Thanks for all the info, I've gone for the Evoke 3 as we already have one of the early Pure models in the kitchen and it's pretty decent and the advice here helped.

Only problem is I don't seem to be able to get the EPG ! Signal is strong, I've had it on BBC Radio 7 for about an hour and no joy in it being downloaded yet...

Re: Recording DAB or Internet Radio via an EPG

It's a shame but I had this:

http://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/h359.htm

It was a DAB radio on a PCI card. It records to the computers hard drive and can do timed recordings. Unfortunatly I don't think you can get one now.

It might be worth hunting on e-bay.

http://www.radioandtelly.co.uk/cgi-b...num=1093123896

"used to work for a company called Modular Technology.
We developed and produced the DAB PCI card. Modular Technolgy ceased trading in 2003.

As far as I'm aware no other company has produced a DAB PCI card. The cards were reasonably expensive to produce, lots of hefty licence fees to pay to various organisations and the PC market prices dropping rapidly. So far eastern guys not interested.

Cards may well be available on e-bay, but I don't remember if the drivers worked on XP. If not http://www.dabbar.co.uk/dabbar.htm have their own software which works with the card.

The company http://www.radioscape.com developed all the software and the DAB modules. They DO NOT produce cards! But they may know of someone else who has licenced their technology.

Sorry can't be of more help."

Recording from freeview on a PC might be an option.

Oh and sorry but I don't want to sell my Modular Technology board. It's great!
