Question internet radio in the .RAM format - what supports this format?

Hello guys,

I have a custommer that wants an internet radio player or music server where he can listen to BBC's radio 3 & 4 stations but they are in the RAM format so I don't know what to use, any suggestions?

They all support Real Media, which by definition should include the .ram format - best to get a demo in store near you...

Thanks for your reply,

the thing is that the custommer already plays that internet station through the computer but he doesn't want to do that anymore, he wants to have an independent media player/server like an Imuse, Escient or Olive (which can play internet radio stations but none can play .ram stations) playing that BBC's Radio 3 and 4...

And that is why I have come to your help, we are going to use them along a rotel stereo integrated amplifier and a pair of paradigm speakers...

I was referring to Internet Wi Fi radios, such as the ones offered by Acoustic Energy and, latterly, by Bush. Far more convenient, as you don't need the PC to be on (just a Wi Fi access point)

My Philips Streamium doesn't unfortunately - however BBC national stations (NOT Radio Cymru, Radio Wales, Radio Scotland, RnaG, Radio Ulster or Radio Foyle, or English local stations) are also in WMA format so it can get those (although I use Freeview or DAB anyway). http://www.radiofeeds.co.uk/ Has the links.

Ah, but that's a streaming music system and not an internet radio as such - I'd be very surprised if any of the internet radios (i.e. those that access internet radio stations via Wi Fi) don't support RealMedia formats...

Sonos will do it.

And would no doubt sound pretty good through a Rotel, however, the bit rates seem pretty low on Radio 3 & 4, so if he's not used to listening through a decent amp, it may highlight the low quality.

Aside from the lack of a speaker I can't see the difference? It streams internet radio via WiFi

Thumbs up Re: internet radio in the .RAM format - what supports this format?

Ok, I will go for the slimdevices squeezebox its easier for me to get and it has a plugin that allows it to play BBC stations:

http://www.x2systems.com/AlienBBC/

Acoustic energy are my second choice but, what about the sound, how good are the speakers?

Sonos look very nice but too expensive for what I have in mind, I'll have it in mind for a whole house audio distribution system,

Thanks,
