Denon TU1800 vs Marantz ST7001

Please help me decide?

Both look similar, cost about the same, same functionality - DAB and analogue ...

but one has to be "better" than the other, right?!

Re: Denon TU1800 vs Marantz ST7001

Hang on.....

Denon and Marantz are basically the same company, right?

And both these units seem to have the same number of LEDs and controls, just in slightly different configurations.

So I imagine that under the skin they are both exactly the same machines?? If its down to aesthetics the denon is ahead.

.. why do they bother??

Re: Denon TU1800 vs Marantz ST7001

I very nearly went for the Marantz but thought may as well just save some money and get the Denon. In fairness though the Denon is better for my set-up as the metal finish is nicer and the LED's are blue and red like my amp as opposed to the traffic lights on the Marantz.

I'd go for the Denon personally. It's a fantastic tuner.

Re: Denon TU1800 vs Marantz ST7001

Yep, just picked one up from richer sounds, a steal at £180 ... such a shame DAB bit rates are so naff, I'm using the co-ax out into a Quad cdp-2 to use the superior DACs, but its hardly worth the effort. Nearly blew my speakers a minute ago by plugging the analogue outs into the phono in

A/B - ing between DAB and FM shows just how badly compressed digital is - shame. Luckily the TU1800 is a great FM set as well.. manual didnt make it clear you can only auto-preset via the remote, apart from that plain sailing so far
