Jazz\Smooth.FM???

SmoothFm formally known as JazzFm used to be a radio station I enjoyed listening in the car. But suddenly SmoothFm has changed and now do not play Jazz and Soul anymore but various genres etc.

Its obvious that the station has changed hands etc, but I miss listening to Jazz and the occasional soul on Fm radio.

Does anybody have any alternatives, or a new waveband if jazz\smooth fm has moved.

Thanks

Re: Jazz\Smooth.FM???

I use to love Jazz FM. When it changed to Smooth FM I tried to like for a month but in the end switched off.
Too many adverts and not enough decent music (or at least to my taste)
Apparently in 10 years Jazz FM struggle to make any money.
Odd when you think how popular Jazz is. Shame.

So if anyone knows of an alternative FM station in the West Sussex area it would be much appreciated too

Re: Jazz\Smooth.FM???

A decent Jazz station would be nice. Radio 3 has some but not at the best times for me and they do tend to take it off a lot.

Cheers

Re: Jazz\Smooth.FM???

If you like a bit of sweet soul music try the Alex Dyke Soul Show on Isle of Wight Radio 10pm Saturday until 1am Sunday. I used to get it sindicated through my local commercial station and when they gave up I tracked it down on streaming radio, low bitrate so poor quality but the man is great, plays mostly vinyl and has a huge knowledge, lots of anecdotes etc.

Re: Jazz\Smooth.FM???

Does it have to be on FM as there is a good one in a similar vane to Smooth on DAB called 'Jazz' if you like smoothFM you will like this. Even better is Sky which has Jazz FM there or even better Internet radio! Try Radio Jazz or Soulful Smooth Jazz on itunes or Windows Media player. I get my Jazz fill every day

Re: Jazz\Smooth.FM???

I had also thought JazzFM had gone as it was replaced on my Digital Freeview box with Smooth FM, but I recently purchased a DAB radio and now I can get Jazzfm.com as well as Smooth FM! It's definitely the old Jazz FM I used to know, and quality is really good (128kbs stereo). It is MXR West & Wales on station 12C, 227.36MHz, I get 100% signal strength from Cardiff Wales. There is also The Jazz, though mono is nice late night listening.

Regards
Simon

Re: Jazz\Smooth.FM???

Off topic I know but internet radio (I use a Squeezebox3) is the way to go for jazz fans. Stations from around the world are available and cater to every style of the jazz genre.
