DAB vs Freeview radio

Is there any difference in the sound formats or will DAB sound better than the same station through a freeview receiver?

Thanks,

Re: DAB vs Freview radio

ISTR that the Freeview radio stations usually have a higher datarate - i.e. less compression and therefore better quality audio.

Re: DAB vs Freview radio

I had a DAB tuner in my system but when all the stations we listen to appeared on Freeview (which we had anyway) at better quality I got rid of it.

Thanks,
There are some stations on DAB that are not even transmitted in stereo. Freeview seems to offer stereo as standard.

Re: DAB vs Freview radio

5 Live, 5 Live Sports Extra, Oneword and Talk Sport are in mono on both Freeview & DAB.

BBC Asian Network & BBC7 are in stereo on Freeview but in mono on DAB.

BBC Radio 4 is sometimes in mono on DAB (in the evening when 5 Live Sports Extra is on-air) but always in stereo on Freeview.

BBC Radios 1, 2 and 4 use a bit rate of 192k on Freeview so in theory they should sound better than on DAB, where 128k is used. The commercial music stations on Freeview use 128k so they should sound about the same as DAB, all other parameters being equal.

Many thanks for the replies.
I won't rush and buy a DAB tuner just yet then!

Re: DAB vs Freview radio

DAB offers various local radio stations and Classic FM which aren't on Freeview. Also I can't really take my Freeview TV into the garden but can take my DAB radio!
