will more connections de-grade quality?

HI,

I'm about to install an aerial and run a cable for when I get my new tuner. I have two options....

1. run the cable straight from the aerial through the wall and into the tuner without a split

2. run the cable from the aerial into a wall point then from the wall point into the tuner

I'm looking at using a very high end Musical Fidelity A5 tuner so want/need the best possible signal.

Thanks

Re: will more connections de-grade quality?

providing you use good quality co-ax ie CT100 as used for sat installation and f-connectors where possible and take care with any connections there should be no problems re signal degradation
If poss use a straight through connector as a wall plate as opposed to the ones that use a braid clamp method of termination

Search on google for a company called Satcure and look for their wallplate no 100-00107

Re: will more connections de-grade quality?

You lose about a db per joint. 3 joints and you are down to half power. I would advise using a proper splitter like you would find in a Cable install.

Re: will more connections de-grade quality?

So I'd be possibly better going for a straight through cable? I was thinking of using a russ andrews v20 coax cable straight from the aerial into the receive this way I'm hoping not to have any signal loss through joins/connections in the cable and should hopefully get the best possible signal.

Thanks for the comments.

thanks think I will go down that route as it will save having to make a bigger hole in my wall to accomadate a wall plate and mess around with connections

Re: will more connections de-grade quality?

Make sure you add 8cm drip loops under the aerial and under the connection into the house, then seal the hole properly.
I would er on the side of a wall plate because I once disconnected a directly connected TV aerial and water poured out. The connection at the head end had degraded allowing water into the cable which then piped it nicely into the back of the (rented) TV. If you use a wall plate you create a water break but if you use drip loops and seal the cables with tape it shouldn't be a problem.
