Angry New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

I am extremely disappointed that this radio does not have a software upgrade facility. I think this is short sightedness on Pure's behalf. I don't understand why they've ommitted this feature.

I was thinking of parting away with my Pure Bug Too and buying this stereo but I'm having second thoughts now.

What part of the software needs upgrading on it?

Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

Not all pure's DAB radios have USB for software upgrade
See http://pure.com/products/comparison.asp

Elan & Pocket (excluding the latest incarnations of each) don't have USB either.

If you want both CD & USB-update then its DMX-50, DMX-60, DTM-300, or Legato

Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

hi all,

i've been waiting for this model since july when it was announced but did not realise the lack of USB port. is this really a major concern? also is pure a good make? (i have never bought a pure product before) i am going to JL watford on saturday who have them in to see if i can test the sound of quality, hopefully it will be up to standard.

are there any other micro hi-fi type systems which contain dab/cd , made by a good brand and are at max £150? (but i really only want to spend £100 if possible) i have seen the philips MCB700/05 ( http://www.consumer.philips.com/cons...CSHQNHKFSESI5P ) but this maybe slightly too large for my window sill. any other suggestions are most welcome.

many thanks,
Hish

Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

Got an official confirmation form Pure that the Chronos CD does NOT have the software upgrade facility (I wish I knew why not????? - there's always software bugs in the early units)

Pure DABs are one of the best on the market and have excellent features and sound quality. Unfortunately, the lack of USB port is a big drawback - as I've already said there's always software bugs and not being able to upgrade it is poor!

Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

hi, thanks for the reassurance on the pure brand. Apart from the missing usb port are there any other problems?also if there are any major bugs will pure deal with them considering the product comes with a 2 year warranty. has anyone seen any alternatives to this machine at this price as it looks like a good price for what its got. i'm looking to get a new dab radio/cd player asap so quick replies would be most appreciated.

hi, thanks for the reassurance on the pure brand. Apart from the missing usb port are there any other problems? Its too new to know whether there any issues with this model but Pure as a brand is excellent - they are the number one DAB radio manufacturer in the world! also if there are any major bugs will pure deal with them considering the product comes with a 2 year warranty I would think so but I've never used their customer services. has anyone seen any alternatives to this machine at this price as it looks like a good price for what its got Pure Bug Too is a nice DAB but without CD/FM support though you get SD card slot to record and play mp3's and also has a USB port for upgrading software as the original software was full of bugs!. i'm looking to get a new dab radio/cd player asap so quick replies would be most appreciated Pure do the Legato which is mini hifi system - very nice but you're looking at over £200

I personally prefer Pure for build/sound/feature/reception quality - shame they didn't include the USB port on this as I wanted to buy one - personally I would have no hesitation in recommending a Pure DAB

Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

hi
many thanks for the advice.

i think i'm going to go with the chronos cd (as long as the sound quality is good when i test it at JL), ican't see any other makes with products at this price. if i buy it at JL and there are any problems i'm sure they'll sort it out plus there is always Pure.

i'll post a review once i get it,
many thanks again

Curry's, Oxford Street had quite a few of 'em on Saturday, that's where I picked mine up. Cost a (comparatively) whopping £130, however...

I've searched everywhere online, and have an order in with http://www.aqdab.com/ who were due to receive stock today. Unfortunately, they emailed me tonight to say that:
Quote:
Following communication from PURE Digital this afternoon, this email is to advise you we are expecting delivery of stock of this item early next week (commencing 18th December). This is to due to quality testing currently being carried out by PURE. We can guarantee all orders will be fulfilled next week, and arrive in time for Christmas.
What with this and my failed pre-order for a Wii, it's looking like a bad week for me ordering Christmas presents

Unhappy Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

Received my Pure Chronos CD today, worked great for about 10 minutes.

It turned on okay to start with, tuned in approx. 20 DAB radio stations okay, working great. Setup an alarm, changed the display settings, etc, etc.

However, I then tried to tune in the FM stations, did a scan for next station, and found nothing, which is strange, since we have a very good FM signal in this area.

So, I then switched back to DAB, and now it can't find any radio stations. I've tried Autoscan again, manual tuning, etc., but nothing. I've even tried reseting the radio by pressing the MENU button for 3 seconds, and then select. But still no reception on either DAB or FM.

Any ideas what might be causing this problem? Any ideas on how to fix it, since all I get from Pure is an out of office reply - "We are now closed for the Christmans period and will reopen for business at 9am Tuesday 2nd Jan 07."

Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

Okay, I've played around a bit more trying to get this rubbish bit of kit working. It looks like this may be a firmware/software type problem. As long as I keep the radio in DAB mode, it works okay. As soon as I switch over to FM mode, firstly I get no FM stations. Then changing back to DAB loses all my DAB stations.

If I then scan twice for FM stations, I get all my FM stations back. Then DAB starts working okay again. Alternatively, turn it off for half an hour, and DAB starts working again.

One other problem - the last digit of the display is dimmer than the other digits.

First time I've bought a Pure product, must say, I'm not impressed. Looks like this radio has some sort of problem switching between the DAB and FM tuners.

Also, I'm suprised that they're support people are off now until 2nd January, and the people I bought it from, www.aqdab.com aren't replying to emails at all.

Anyone else own this radio had similar problems?

What's the verdict on a Pure Chronos CD - have the initial problems been sorted out? Are they worth the money?

humming now gone and it works fine only feature it lacks is an alarm that turns off after an hour rather than just turning it back to original radio volume.

Unhappy Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

I have just received a Pure Chronos CD. It sounds great and I have none of the earlier problems mentioned re FM/Dab radio. However I do have a problem with the alarms. If I have more than 1 alarm set (especially if one is set to repeat and the other not) then they do not work. I have 100% signal strength, so that is not an issue, the alarms are definately on.

For Info Alarm1, On, 0855, repeat, weekends, radio2, volume4

Alarm 2, On, 0555, repeat off, Mon, radio 2, Volume 4

Alarm 3, On, 0655, repeat on, Weekdays, radio 2, volume 4

Is anybody else having this problem or know how I can fix it?

It does appear that if I only have 1 alarm set it will work, but that defeats the object of having 4 programmable alarms!

Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

I got my Chronos CD around Christmas time and have until recently been reasonably pleased with it.

In the last 6 week however a problem has started to develop. Every now and then the preset stations disappear. Sometimes the radio will store the presets for say 2 weeks and other times only 2 days.

Anyone else got a similar problem with the Chronos CD?

Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

My Pure Chronos CD seems to have given up playing audio CD-R's and MP3 discs, as well as losing radio presets. It's now gone to my parents, and I bought the even better equipped (plays SD cards as well as the rest), though slightly less pretty Roberts Sound 36, which works perfectly.

Yes, you are not alone!

Had mine since 2nd Feb and occassionally over the last few weeks I've noticed the radio hasn't been waking me up. For me it's just the DAB presets that disappear. Seeing as how the presets are used to wake from radio it's an important feature but really means using FM to wake up to. Why did I buy a DAB unit again? At least my second alarm, the repeating buzzer, still sounds or I might be staring at a P45!

This morning it had completely lost the DAB channels and was waiting for a prompt from me to select auto or manual tuning.

Angry Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

I have just returned the third one of my PURE Chronos CD DAB radios. I've had enough of them now. I've had one returned to PURE that they cannot fix as they cannot recreate the problem of it constantly losing it's DAB presets. It is totally randowm when it loses them. It could be two days or two weeks. All 3 of them have done the exact same thing. I loved the machine but I'm so fed up with that problem I've now got the Roberts Sound 36 model. It seems to work fine although it's not as pretty as the PURE, but at least it works. Surely this PURE model does have an inherent fault. The volume control on the Roberts is a lot better also at lowish volume as the PURE doesn't get that low.

Thumbs down Re: New Pure Chronos CD/MP3 DAB/FM

I'm not happy with the Chronos CD either...I bought it, took it home and it worked great...amazing sound. I have no idea what happened but after about 15minutes it just stopped producing any sound. I tried turning it on and off, then extending the aerial, and resetting it etc etc but to no avail. have tried putting it in different places in the house etc but it still only produces a very very faint sound at full volume and full signal. Have emailed PURE support but they just suggested resetting it...done that about 10 times!

Anyone got any suggestions?
