DAB on the move is #rap

I own an ARIA DIGITAL portable Dab radio.
Are we being suckered into inferior technology again or what !!!!!!!!!
OK in a strong open signal area when not on the move it recieves and sounds ok. However On the move, on a train/bus, in a shop it is really poor, yet switch to FM and bingo, Radio on the move as it should be. OK so i don't get scrolling messages on FM but at least i can hear the thing, looking at the cost of Dab radios we are being fleeced again for what they are, switch to digital they say, it's much better, #ollocks, it's another con that will eventually lead to digital encryption, bring back radio caroline i say !!!!!!!!!!!

DAB is a poor replacemet for FM, not just in the sigal, but in sound quality as well. s a portable system, I suppose the quality is not as important, because walking around, you should be taking more notice where you are going than than listening to the quality of the audio. But as you have found out, the signal can be a bit hit and miss, depending on where you live or walk.

FM is far better for listening at home, at the moment digital radio have still not got the quality of the old FM system

Got to agree mostly with the OP,the quality of DAB is very poor on the move,
and battery life is half as long as FM.

FM mode is far superior consistancy wise.

(Don't ask for Radio Caroline back please )

Have to agree that reception is shocking. And a big let down.

But one question.

These units use the headphone cable as the aerial. Does its length have any effect?

Did a little experimentation with my Dad's new Sony XDRM1, and the results were inconclusive. It seemed sh!te whatever the length.

What are the experiences of others ?

I still do! In fact, I am listening to it right now!
Don't know how to get it?
As well as being on the net, you can get it on $ky! Yes, $ky. No it's not on the EPG (yet), but it's still there.
Press Services on your remote, then System Set Up, and Add Channels
The screen will give you tuning options. Use the keypad and cursor buttons to make the screen show:
Frequency - 11.390
Polarity - V
Symbol Rate - 27.5
FEC - 2/3

Now go to Find Channels and press Select. The screen will shortly show the channel it has found. Use the yellow button to Store Channels, this puts a tick against your choice, then press Select.
When you want to listen to Caroline, just press Services and Other Channels. The Caroline option will appear, and you just press Select
A word of caution...... Power cuts or any disconnection of the digibox will cause information stored re: Other Channels to be lost and will need to be re-programmed in. I found this one out the hard way!

If it's on test on Sky, it can't be long before it appears on the EPG
