Bose Wave - credible alternatives?

I'm a big fan of the Bose Wave series, love the sound and the compact nature of the thing, but am always put off by the £600 price tag.

So, what are the credible alternatives?

The Ruark R4i is nearly as much, and after seeing the Roberts 53 in the flesh the build quality and sound are no where near as good.

I'm looking for something that does everything the Bose does, but for a £400 budget. One thing that is important is that it does everything from the front (no top loading or top ipod dock), as it is to sit on a high shelf.

Thanks, TT

What are you must have features, notice the models you've suggested have built in cd player, is this a must.

I got a Revo K2 a few weeks back which I'm very happy with, I'm not an audiophile so can't compare whether the sound is anywhere near that of a expensive Bose or device in the same K2 price range. Bose is right out of my price range and while I've heard many rave about the sound quality a Bose gives it seems they're a little behind in support for the latest features

CD player and DAB a must, i-pod connectivity a nicety, although a wireless connection would be a real bonus! Must be front loading with front controls or a good remote as it will be on a shelf about 6' up.

I've been hunting around and seen the Denon DM38DAB here:

Denon DM38DAB Silver | Mini System EXC speakers | Richer Sounds

Anyone any experience/views on this?
