Attn. All Denon TU1800 owners

recently we seem to be having issues with Denons TU1800 DAB tuners.
we use these in multiroom systems and are having problems where the analogue output of the tuner 'pauses' only to resume a few seconds later.
signal strength is not an issue as the BER indication is 0.0000...
anyone else have this problem?

Hi,
I also have this problem but it has only recently started, say in the past few weeks. Previously all was working ok in a multi room setup. As you also state the Bit Error Rate looks to be ok. Did you figure out what was happening?

sadly no resolution, other than the fact that each time we get a tuner that displays this problem we return them to Denon who supply a replacement. we must have had six or so that have had this fault.

Ohhh I just posted about this problem prior to seeing this thread.

Just bought mine with this problem and it happens on the digital optical as well as analogue.

Did you ever find the cause or fix to your problem?

hi, as i said in my above post, whenever we had a report of this occuring we would take out a replacement tu1800 to the customer and send the faulty one back to denon.
takes yours back to richer and ask them to swap it, chances are the replacement will be fine.

Hi!

Thanks for the reply!

Yeah, I noticed your comment but it had been a while scince it was posted, so was just wondering if it was still an on going thing with the Denon or just a batch.

Dont surpose you know what the issue is do you?

Im taking mine back on saturday, but I dont think they have anymore Denon, I was going to get the CA640t V2 but not been able to find anything about it, I did find things about the 1st version of the 640 and it was nothing special so I think I will get a refund and look elsewhere....

Thanks for posting though!

the last one we did was in december and that one's fine.
it happened over an extended period of time and affected products from two different shops so i don't think it's a 'bad batch' thing.
richer are still advertising them so i guess they must still have some.

ummmmm

well, going to return it tomorrow and get a refund I think. Shame really as its a really nice radio but its too big an issue to not do anything about. If it was just a one off or every now and again, I could handle that, but id say in every hour I have spent lisening to it in the week I have had it, Id say it locks up / freezes about 4 times every hour despite me nearly breaking my next to get a zero BRE.

I can understand the orginal RRP of £300 odd for the tuner as its a nice bit of kit, but the drop to £200 makes you wonder......

Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Thanks for your feedback though, been most helpfull!

2 years!!!! my god does it not drive you up the wall??

When it first started on mine, i had everything unplugged in case I had a lose connection, changed wires around and it turns out its the unit itself.

2 years, man, you deserve a medal!

I seam to have this problem with other Denon equipment as well, when listening to BBC stations. I find with my M37 DAB mini system it sometimes cuts out even though the signal strength is 100%. This is one of the reasons why I don't listen to the normal BBC stations on DAB, I also find FM gives a much warmer sound instead of the compressed MP3 quality of DAB.

To be honest, I have the Denon FA-102 mini hifi that has DAB and its been spot on on the radio front. Never had a problem with it.

The Denon TU-1800 was a big let down though.

Well... This issue seems to have raised it's head once more.
I'm off to a customers this morning to swap out their newly installed TU1800 due to the dreaded 3 sec pausing issue.

OH NO!!! another one :-(

Well, after mine had the issue upon purchase (must admit, Richer Sounds where cool and had no issue with refunding me) I have been on constant look out for a working one.

Went to a local HIFI shop that sold them and was told that he had had so many come back, he has stopped selling them.

Contacted Denon and they where completly unhelpfull and couldnt be any less interested in me as a customer or helping me.

So, as much as a good tuner it could of been, Denon is now off my list.

Still looking for a great tuner......

Question is, how many more tuners are you going to have to swop out?
