I'm thinking about buying a small DAB radio largely with the desire to be able to listen to the cricket commentaries on BBC Test Match Special.

Can any of you confirm whether TMS is in fact broadcast on DAB or will I need to buy a radio capable of receiving long wave?

Yes it is.

Usually there is complete coverage on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra. Very occasionally it is transferred to BBC Radio 5 Live or BBC Radio 4 Long Wave only, all of which are available on DAB.

Look at the user guide for your radio to see how to obtain DAB 'sub-channels' as the 'Sports Extra' and 'Long Wave' broadcasts are sub-channels of R5 and R4 respectively.

I've been using my laptop to listen to TMS which isn't always very convenient.

TMS is actually better on DAB than on LW because:

- no interruptions for the shipping forecast;

- longer previews and reviews before and after a day's play;

- better sound quality
