Poor FM signal

Hi!

I have just recently installed a new hands free (an io play) kit into my 05 focus, however since then, the FM signal quality has been really poor, infact, so bad I cant listen to the radio!

It was fine before I installed the hands free kit, and I have not changed the head unit, so am baffled why this could be. The only difference is the amount of cabling and connectors behind the head unit. Could this be the problem? Perhaps static? I have seen a signal filter,

Here

but don't know if it will fix the problem?

You help is appreciated!

Lewis

Re: Poor FM signal

Does the hands free unit get all its signals via hard wired connection, bluetooth or some other method.
If it's bluetooth, perhaps the bluetoth unit is causing interference ;even though bluetooth uses frequencies a long way from VHF/FM, it could still radiate at lower frequencies.
I assume, of course, that you've double checked that the new installation hasn't disturbed the FM aerial connection, its leads or its ground/shield.

Re: Poor FM signal

Hi, thanks for the reply. The io play is hardwired in, behind the headunit, and comes on with the ignition. All the arial cables are fine, and iv just tried turning the radio on without the ignition on, and the radio works fine, but as soon as i turn the ignition on and the bluetooth device comes on, the interference comes on, which makes me think the bluetooth device is causing the interferience! Im stuck!

Make sure the chassis connection is good on the car's aerial, especially at the aerial end. If an older car (and i don't necessarily mean vintage ) this can become high resistance.

If possible move the hands free further away from the head unit and make sure all 0.volt connections are good.

Re: Poor FM signal

Hi

Have checked the aerial connections which are fine. Have checked all the wires, which are all fine. Have even tried another ground wire but that didnt do anything. Have tried moving the hands free kit to under the steering wheel. Made a slight improvement but still the interference is horrific!

Anybody got any other suggestions?
