Re: Pure Sensia

I have to say, it truly does look stunning! I would buy one in a heartbeat, but for the fact that in all of the possible options, there's still NO Advancement on their letting the user RECORD radio!! You could be forgiven for thinking it was against the law all of a sudden.

Seems the perfect device for it, all that space to stick an sd memory card, or even to use the memory available through the Ipod and a screen that can be changed by a competent programmer with enough skill. Maybe that's the secret, the only way to get the ability to record radio myself, learn the programming language and do it myself!

Still, it does look good, but I'm waiting for the 'new tech' or innovation that can do everything I want. Preferably an updated EVOKE-3, if they had updated that with 'touch screens' etc as well as kept all the options, I would have purchased it already! But seeing as they haven't, I shall be looking everywhere until I find such a thing.

Re: Pure Sensia

I've recently bought an Avanti Flow, and it has far surpassed my expectations performance wise. Sound quality is better than I expected both from my ipod and all 3 radio sources. Internet radio is a revelation to me.

I love the look of the Sensia, and as soon as I can get my hands on one it will become my bedside radio of choice. Love the look of it too!

Yes, I noticed the small difference in time. I suspect it has something to do with them being made in different areas\zones, or perhaps they've got to clear one colour\design from the production line before they can start on another? It's the only thing that makes any sense to me I'm afraid.

As quick as you get it however, a mini review would be appreciated if at all possible? Enlightening us to whether it has a EPG, Radio Record feature?

If it does I'll have one too, I've no use for facebook etc but I suspect I know where Pure got their inspiration for this device from: YouTube - Chumby Review

Will do
Am keeping my eye on some other retailers, have seen prices significantly cheaper than the £250 rrp, but as soon as do decided where, & what colour, I will come back & post any piccies or info that may help.

Pure Sensia or Logitech Squeezebox Boom?

I just put an order in for a Logitech Squeezebox Boom, but I am considering switching to the Pure Sensia.

Which one would people go for? I'm particularly interested in which has the better streaming from a ReadyNAS Duo and the best collection of radio stations.

(Maybe this would be better in the media streaming forum?)

Re: Pure Sensia or Logitech Squeezebox Boom?

Saw one these on sale today at our local annual Tech show. They were in stock and selling them at a show price of £229, actually only a Pound difference from the Avanti flow. Very much an object of desire. It was very difficult to keep my money in my pocket. The sponsor of the show, Bennetts Electrical, has them on-line at £249.

5.7" 640X480pix colour touch screen displays weather, news, Podcasts, Facebook and Twitter. Not sure if it works well with BBC i-player though. Like I-pods it can display album covers. Also able to pick up photo slide shows both on-line and from your computer. DAB and FM with an option for incorporating a battery pack to make it portable. the only thing it doesn't have is an ability to record. You have to rely on radio stations having 'listen again' facilities. No i-Pod dock. You have to purchase that as an add-on item.

I'm hoping for a slight reduction after the Christmas period.

Re: Pure Sensia or Logitech Squeezebox Boom?

The Pure website that drives the internet side of this radio is accessible to anyone.
Come on in to the PURE Lounge
I have to say it seems a bit 'clunky' to me. I admit have had little experience of streaming radios. There seems to be no access to BBC i-player and at the moment links to BBC podcasts don't seem to be working. Perhaps I am expecting too much. The accessability of i-player would be a definite advantage for me.

If you want background sound effects, like birdsong or traffic noise!, its nearly all there. Thankfully the track labled 'snoring man' does not seem to be operating.

Also the way of finding particular genres of music appears to be a bit general. Ask it to select stations playing 'folk' and it will do so, but also chooses Nor'folk' and Suf'folk' simply because of the 'folk' in the station title.

Any comments on streaming radio 'radios' as opposed to by computer would be appreciated.

Re: Pure Sensia

Just had a quick look for upcoming prices on the Sensia and found it on Go Electrical as a pre-order for £229.90. You can get 4% cashback going though quidco with Go, so makes it roughly £220 including postage.

Best I've seen yet, and makes it a tempting offer for an early Xmas present for myself.

Re: Pure Sensia

Just ordered a white one from Amazon with a battery pack. Delivery should be this Wednesday. I'm hoping the music streaming works OK with my AAC itunes files - I've just paid to remove the DRM in preparation! I'll update on first impressions as soon as I can (new baby also in the house takes priority!).

Re: Pure Sensia

I'd be interested to know how you get on with it. I bought the Pure Flow about this time last year, but was ultimately disappointed that it doesnt have independant alarms where you can set the volume for alarm and sleep independantly. There was talk of a firmware upgrade that incorporated this but as yet thats failed to materialise.

Re: Pure Sensia

Saw this in John Lewis today. The screen looks really nice and the sound is fairly decent considering the small size of the whole unit. But I didn't really get on with the touch interface though - it was too easy to select other items by mistake whilst scrolling and the response was slightly slower than what I'd expected.

Then again, the Flow could be quite unresponsive so I'm interested to see how they compare on that front.

Got my sensia today and in two minds. Sound quality is excellent but the user interface is sooooooo slooooooooowwwww!
It is so slow you think you have not pressed the screen correctly. My flow is miles faster. Looks like its going back to amazon. Wait until they sort out the firmware, it will become cheaper and more usable hopefully.

Re: Pure Sensia

I got mine yesterday. Easy to setup and streaming AAC files from the PC and the manual is still sealed. YES! Interface has a slight pause but not drastic. Build quality is good for a first batch run. I'm happy with it (I've got another 5 DAB radios) the Chronos is a better radio/alarm but for what I want - music in the study - it's perfect. Only complaint is that now nearly all my kit (TV, blu ray, radio, PC, Wii etc etc) is constantly getting latest firmware when all I want to do is watch TV, listen to music etc!

Can you give us a clue as to the internet radio performance. I appreciate that this goes through the Pure Lounge Website. Can you access anything on BBC iplayer? It's not really very clear in the promotional material. The implication is that it can acess some 'listen again' stuff, but not sure if that covers all the iplayer material.

Re: Pure Sensia

The internet interface is 'thelounge' no BBC iplayer per se. So what you can see on thelounge you get on the Sensia
Performance? Not sure what metrics you want me to report! A good quality feed seems to give good sound and takes a few seconds to load?

Re: Pure Sensia

Got mine Wednesday, set up easy sounds good sadly no tone control FM reception poor in a good signal area. DAB reception good DAB features good. So far not tested the life of the battery pack. Works well on Internet radio and media server. Has Crashed twice, had software update to V1.1. Remote works well but it's a bit limited in what you can control with it. Please Pure let's have some of the promised apps soon. Let's hope Pure will support and improve on the Sensia and listen to user comments

Sounds like these were released a bit ahead of development time. For £250 I would expect a much better product.

Re: Pure Sensia

Just to update my initial feedback.
I agree with Paul W above - having now played with the FM tuner the reception is easily the worst of any radio in my house. Not an issue for me as I don't ever use FM but if important to you, don't buy (based on my example).
But DAB/internet/streaming is working well generally I'm still happy with it

Hi DD,
Hope you don't mind me asking - how's the interface beyond the speed issues? I have elderly parents back in Ireland, and the Pure Evoke Flow proved fiddly for them switching between FM and Internet (No Irish DAB as of yet in the area). Can you confirm favourites can be set up in both FM and Lounge, and how intuitive the Sensia is if restricted to using those functions through the favourites menu?
Cheers mate,
Johnny.

Can you confirm favourites can be set up in both FM and Lounge, and how intuitive the Sensia is if restricted to using those functions through the favourites menu?
Cheers mate,
Johnny.
You can't Setup FM Favorites in the lounge but you can set up 10 on the Sensia. Favorites setup in the Lounge are displayed on the Sensia in folders as in the Lounge
