DAB - FM Signal

Aerial suppliers sell combined DAB/FM aerials.

I have a FM circular aerial that is currently not installed.

Because Radio Merseyside reception is so poor I am going to install a DAB aerial.

Do I need to also install the FM aerial ? or is the radio designed to identify the different signals.
Because there is only one connection to the radio if I also installed the FM radio I presume I would have to either use a switch to isolate one of the inputs or swop the co ax connection over.

Re: DAB - FM Signal

Providing reception is okay, one aerial should be good enough. I have three DAB/FM radios in my house and the one aerial for each picks up both DAB and FM signals no bother. Try the FM aerial you already have for DAB, you may find it works fine.

By the way, the radio identifies the different signals, as DAB and FM are totally different - the first is digital whilst the latter is analogue.

Cheers,

Martin.

Re: DAB - FM Signal

I tried a circular FM mounted on the roof high up on a pole. Reception on FM was just about satisfactory.

Using this aerial for DAB broadcasts gave me high signal strengths for Radio 2, Radio 4 Five Live and Talk Sports - they were even good on the piece of wire that came with the expensive Roberts set.

RADIO MERSEYSIDE - NON EXISTANT.

Because of the house design it was much easier to install a DAB aerial for each set. All on roof - on poles - unrestricted - superb signal strength on allstations. Nearly 100% on Merseyside.

FM reception much improved.
