Can I convert FM input to use to boost AM?

Hello

I already have a 8 way aerial amplifier, which has an input for FM, however, I need to boost my AM signal. Problem is the connection for FM and AM differs on my tuner. FM requires the standard coax plug where as the AM requires, well, a fork like connection. Does a convertor exist that would allow me to convert the FM signal to AM?

Or will I simply have to purchase a boosted AM aerial, and if so, which would you recommend please?

Thanks

Re: Can I convert FM input to use to boost AM?

A converter would not be appropriate.
AM broadcast is in various bands at frequencies of about 180 KHz-26MHz. The normal medium wave AM band is about 500 KHz to 1.6 MHz.
FM broadcast is 88-108 MHz - much higher frequency.
For AM, I would suggest a simple length of wire - also known as a "longwire" aerial.
This is the simplest aerial that anyone could DIY.
Try Googling " 'medium wave' longwire aerial"

Thanks. No DIY skills so purchased this from maplins...

AM/FM Radio Amplified Aerial : Radio Aerials : Maplin

Works really well with FM, however, there is a problem with the AM. The amplified aerial has two prongs for AM, which I connect to my tuner but there is still no signal. I then found in the tuners instructions that it still requires the loop in order to receive AM signal. I no longer have the loop that came with the tuner and not sure where to go from here as the loop it refers to has a two pin connection jack. Any advise?

Re: Can I convert FM input to use to boost AM?

Just use some cheap wire of similar gauge and length to what was on the original loop aerial to approximate the original and connect that. The length and dimensions are not critical.

I have one of these Maplin aerials and it works very well sitting on a window sill. OK for FM, passable for AM.

I had an AM/FM tuner that had a conventional ferrite rod aerial affixed to the back on a hinge which you turned for best AM reception. As I recall this was 'hard wired' into the unit.
