Roberts MP53 or Pure Avanti Flow or Yamah TSX 130

I am in a smallish dilemma here. I like the ability to pop in my CD/MP3cd, which avanti flow does not have. I will be buying iPOD too in the next year or so.

Perhaps what will make the deal is the sound quality of each, but again I am no great audiophile either. Fortunately all three will fit my budget. In terms of beauty, sound, and versatility, which one should I go for?

My heart says Avanti Flow, but CD player function takes me away.

Main reason to look for these is the compactness and absence of wires etc to keep peace at home.

Go for the Roberts MP53

Well, I can't comment on the other two options, but the Roberts is a great all rounder. OK, so it's probably not for the Audiophiles (whoever they are), but I like it way it sounds, can play my MP3's from hard drives, SD cards and USB sticks, and CDs of course. I haven't even tried the Ipod option. The radio's pretty decent too, and can even record from that, and sits neatly on the bedroom shelf. For the money I think you'd be hard pushed for more versatility and, yes, quality in one box, and no extra wires to trip over. Depends on your needs of course, but that's my tuppence worth.

What about the Roberts MP43; It's cheaper than the MP53.

See here including loads of customer reviews. Roberts MP43 Sound 43 CD/DAB/FM Digital Sound System: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

TSX 130 looks the nads, auditioned the Roberts and it sounded excellent but couldn't handle high volume. I love the YAMAHA and will be getting myself one when I have some spare cash..

By the way, I was put off the roberts by the fact that you have to use the remote to use it. If you lose it you are shafted and will have to buy another one. The smaller mp43 model still has buttons on though..

Exactly - had a play in John Lewis the other day: you can't even choose inputs without the remote...

But the 43 doesn't look as nice.

Costco now have the Yamaha Tsx-130 for just under £200 incl. VAT. But, they only have them in white (not black)... That's around £80-120 cheaper than anywhere else.

They have a great returns/exchange policy, so it is worth finding someone who is a member if you're not (i was able to have a good play in my local branch - I'll be going back after payday - but CostCo only take cash/debit cards)

I have a Roberts MP43 in my office. I can't fault it and the sound is surprisingly powerful.

Well, went to CostCo after payday to get a TSX-130. Bit of a warm, bassy, sound on CD and iPod - but DAB/FM reception was poor... Had previously a simple (i.e. cheap) transistor radio in the same spot in the kitchen which picked-up radio fine.

Borrowed a mate's Roberts DAB radio (again, only a small unit) and that was fine.

Tried all sorts of things with the aerial, it just did not work - plus missus thought it sounded a bit 'muffled' - so ended-up taking it back to CostCo, who took it back no problems. Shame.

Now waiting for delivery of an end-of-line Denon S52 to see how that goes.
