PLasma and LCD installer - starting on own..

Having installed quite a few of these in my time and having a varied background in all things AV I have decided to start my own installation business.

My question is : Until I leave my current job 9-5 mon-friday what things will need to be inplace for me to operate...

I have been told I need public liability insurance as a minuimum

Was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice!

Will be doing installations on weekends and early evenings to see how things go ...

I am based in wrexham north wales and theres is a distinct lack of 'lower end' installers with most of the local installers doing multi-room and corporate work

Are your skills limited to just setting up the plasma or can you do whole installs like fake walls (stud) etc?

Cheers

Feel free to give me a ring for a chat, Baldy. Not a bad location I'd say, you should also get in touch with Piers, he needs a hand occasionally with his installs, being a one man band. It's useful to have local others in the business to co-operate with, especially one as knowlegeable as that.

If needs be I work alongside a professional installer from chester who can arrange stud walls etc if your in the market for such work in the near future!

Well done mate. You do have to just go for it. I am just glad I did before getting stuck in some job working my bum off for someone else!

All the best!

Yes, I imagine you are a bit older than me and also have a fair few more (financial) responsibilities. I was able to just go for it and build my business over time as I live at home and don't have any kids.

My friend has recently gone from working in employment to being self employed. He had to work very hard for around 6months to cover the bills and mortgage, basically having two jobs but now he is all on his own (driving instructor). Enjoying himself and reaping the rewards.

Re: PLasma and LCD installer - starting on own..

Yup I am the ripe old age of 34 with mortgage, fiance, 3year old daughter etc so it does make a massive difference!!

The work is already coming in quite quickly so with any luck I should be able to go it alone in a few months!

GILFORD - wish you had told me you where a printer as my business cards are still not ready (ordered 2 weeks ago now!) - do you do flyers and that sort of thing (gonna plaster them over currys/comet car parks on a weekend!)
