Anyone ever installed/hung a 42" plasma on a timber-framed wall?

Hi all,

I live in a period property that is timber-framed, i.e. no bricks holding up the house. Presumably if you are responding you know what I mean.

Does anyone know whether it's possible to hang a 42" plasma on this kind of wall, and if so got any guidelines or advice?

Thanks all,

BP

You will need to fix at least two batons horizontally between two or three of the timber frame wall studs and then mount your wall bracket onto them. 3/4" batons should be good enough.

Re: Anyone ever installed/hung a 42" plasma on a timber-framed wall?

I put a plasma on a timber framed plaster wall a few years ago and just made sure the middle of the bracket was screwed directly into timber and the rest of the bracket used good quality cavity anchors. That was up for years with no problems at all.

I've got a real head scratch in the (6 year old) house I've just moved into though. The plasterboard appears to be glued to the walls rather than screwed to timber

dot and dab? you just stick anchors into the brick, leaving the plaster board for show...........

hmm.. i thought i'd replied to this - obviously not (damned PC)

is it a cob wall? (i would assume so if timber framed and period)

cob can be a solid material if its not cream crackered, you'll need to open the wall up to see exactly what it looks like, if you're confident in doing this bit, putting the plasma up wont be a problem at all.

as per the other advice, you'll ideally need to stick some timber strucure/framework into the wall itself. if my assumptions are correct and its cob, i honestly think your best bet for holding things in place would be resin fixing rather than some form of expansion bolt.

regards,
jt
