Wifi control for Primare DVDi10

Hi,

Hopefully this is the right spot for my question.

The DVDi10 has a RS232 port. The idea is to control this device wireless via the RS232 port with known RC5 codes from Primare.

There is a possibility connecting the mentioned port to NAS via USB. Could this work? What software (and perhaps additional things) do I need to control this DVDi10 via iTouch and a Wifi connected notebook?

Thanks,
Vincent

RC5 codes are IR instructions, not RS232 strings so you would have to source those first.

Then you have a problem of control. RS232 ports do not give you direct access to web type pages, you would be best to interface it to something like a Pronto or RTI type remote that gives you RF portability with buttons on the remote that trigger the base station to spit out the relevant RS232 strings.

I am not sure if either of these base stations allow you to access it off the web to be able to simulate button presses from within the base station.

HI Vincent i dont think you would be able to connect the RS232 serial control port to a NAS drive to do anyhting useful. For ipod/iphone/itouch and laptop control you would need an RS232 to TCP/IP bridge with buil in webserver and control system GUI.

Something like Aurora Multimedia - IP Control Systems, Multi-Image Video Processors, DVI and HDMI Distribution... WACI junior would be able to do this you would need to create a GUI and then program the RS232 strings into the software.

It would be an ambitous project for a Pro so unless you have a a background in software or control engineering you may want to subcontract this out. You can of course buy the kit and have a play...

Just to satisfy my curiostiy why control a DVD player with a laptop/phone? I personally cant see the benefit unless you already control the rest of your system like this.

Re: Wifi control for Primare DVDi10

Hello all

The Aurora WACI kit would do the job and an iPhone or iPod touch can be used as the user interface.

Aurora provide Free GUI creation software (Aurora Multimedia - IP Control Systems, Multi-Image Video Processors, DVI and HDMI Distribution...) - with a bit of perseverance (and supplier backup) even the non Pro can get a simple set-up going without too many sleepless nights.
