Installing a 32 inch lcd tv on the wall.

Hi i have a 32 inch lcd tv thats on a wooden unit at the moment that allso has my other av stuff on it (Dvdr,Sky,Xbox360 and another receiver). I want to wallmount the tv leaving the other stuff on the unit for now by the tv. How munch will it cost me to have a 32 inch lcd tv wall mounted ? would they just stick a bracket on the wall then put the tv on it and say ok job done ? Ideally i would like all wires hidden if possible but cant see how this would be done ? would they be able to do that ?

Thanks Mick

Re: Installing a 32 inch lcd tv on the wall.

First off what kind of wall is this. Is it an old place with lath and plaster walls or plastered walls? Or is it more of a new build with timber frame construction with plasterboard? i have just installed a 40 inch in my lounge which is plastered walls and also a 32 in my extension which is timber frame construction. So i can give advice on both. Overall both are easy to install, but hiding wires gets more complicated and messy if it is plastered walls. let me know what you got and i can give some suggestions.

a good installer will cost you £200+ but all cables should be hidden and it should be properly wired

Re: Installing a 32 inch lcd tv on the wall.

Sorry for the late reply i forgot a had posted here lol. The walls are plastered and its breezeblock which is rubbish for putting things on i recently had a pair of curtains put up and they fell down the day after they were put back up having to use pollyfiller in the holes with the raw plugs in i think and its been ok since. So would its hold a 32 inch lcd if it cant hold a pair of curtains lol?

Re: Installing a 32 inch lcd tv on the wall.

Plasterboard is fine. The best thing is to try and find a stud for at least one side of the bracket to fix to. As for the other side get special platerboard fixings. If no stud then use these for both sides.

I have used these many a times when installing kitchen units to plasterboard walls where no joists were found among other things. Very easy to use. just position the wall mount where you want it mark the drill positions and drill holes. then put these fixings in and screw in until tight. then take screw out and put bracket on and then screw in tight. i have used this in my extension part as i could only get one side to tie into studs. you will not be able to mount a crt with these but an lcd will be no problem for this.

Re: Installing a 32 inch lcd tv on the wall.

Thanks so i am guessing hiding all the cables would be the problem, how could this be done ? and would an installer do that for me and would it push the price of installation up cause it wouldnt be just your standard installation ?

Thanks Mick

Re: Installing a 32 inch lcd tv on the wall.

The cables are easy to install in plasterboard walls. First work out where you are mounting the tv, then work out where the cables are going into your tv roughly. i then cut a hole in the plasterboard where the tv would be wall mounted and down at the bottom cut another hole where the cables would come out to go to reciever, dvd, etc. You can get things to cover the holes but if you tv is wall mounted you should be able to make the hole far enough up that you would only ever see it if you took it off the wall. same again for the bottom if you have some sort of av rack or entertainment center. if you have the money and cannot be bothered setting up yourself then get someone. personally i enjoy setting things up and saving the money as they do charge quite a bit for what relatively is an easy job.
