Home Ethernet cabling installation cost in London area

I'm thinking of getting Ethernet sockets installed in my two bedroom flat in London.

I don't fancy doing it myself as I could only run the cables externally from room to room along skirting boards and door frames and I may have to drill peices of door frame in order to run the cable through so the door actually shuts properly.

Does anyone know of a reputable ethernet domestic cabling firm in and around the London area that could actually do an installation with proper wall sockets for ethernet. I'll want a quote which comes to my second questio how much you reckon it will cost ? £900 or so ?

thanks for any advice.

I just dont have a clue about how to guide cables through wall sockets or drilling holes into skirting boards for wall sockets.

Also I am using power over Ethernet and its not working very well I was getting speeds of up to 5Mb (which is tulip) whereas if I plugged it direct into my router I was getting 44Mb with Virgin XXL broadband.

Hiya,

you'll probably pay £200 or so per day for someone to do this, get any old sparky to do it (if you do the terminations at either end) and you'll probably save some cash.

The cable needs to go in separate chases up the wall and under the floor from the 240v for safety.

Ive just had a four bed house fully rewired for £2,500 so your budget is probably easily doable.

If doing this for the future id also conside doing 2 x cable to each location, and maybe using cat6 as well.

However... why are you doing this, is this just to share your broadband out better than powerline ethernet, if so id consider getting some better kit.

I use solwise homeplug 85Mb/s 14Mbps, 85Mbps Turbo, Wireless, AV Home Plug/PowerLine adapters from Solwise and i get a good 20mbps all over the house.

If you want faster use the 200Mb/s version

On the upside its way under your budget, and you wont need to decorate afterwards, or rip your floors up. On the downside it is IP only so no HDMI dongles and the like if you decide that

cheers

Will

I could ask a friend who could do that for you no problem He is an I.T. guy by trade. I could not recommend anyone more than him.

Let me know.
