AMX VPT-CP touchpanel fail

I bought a second hand AMX VPT-CP touchpanel from ebay recently. It had been cleared (no project on the panel), but appeared to be in working order - could access the setup pages and it was responsive.

I uploaded a touchpanel TPD project to the panel via TPDesign3. Upload appeared to be successful (blue screen shows *Touch to Continue* after upload had completed), but when i touched to clear the message, the screen went blank and now the panel just beeps constantly until I pull the battery out.

I have used this same project file on other VPT-CPs without any problems - this is the first time a panel has failed on me. Re-inserting the battery just causes it to resume a constant beep (screen does not illuminate). The battery is fully charged, but I tried another known working battery pack just to make sure. I can no longer access the panel via serial console (so can't issue the ZAP! command to clear it), nor can I access it via TPDesign3.

It appears I have bricked the panel, however I'm not sure quite why it happened. Does anyone know if there is a way to recover from this (I've not opened up the panel to see if there is a jumper or such I could move).

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Re: AMX VPT-CP touchpanel fail

Update: I fixed it myself. Took the panel apart and lo and behold there is a battery on the motherboard. Took the battery out for a couple of minutes and it returned the panel to its initial state. Tried uploading my project again and it actually worked this time.

Can't understand why it didn't work the first time - perhaps it had not been cleared properly.
Just posting this in case it ever comes in handy for someone who still works with old AMX kit and encounters this problem :-)
