ITT patch panel knowledge ... please help!

Hi,

I've come across a domestic patch panel made by ITT Industries and can't find any information about it on the net.... I've spent ages looking

The panel's first three slots (A,B and C) are RJ45 patching ports which connect to thirty wall sockets around the house. Slot E is a telephone circuit distribution plate (which is patched into the RJ45 patching panel), and slot F is a 'audio module' which uses clunky buttons to select different audio outputs (which are also patched to the RJ45 patching panel).

I've attached a photo of this panel (a bit of a blurry one) and wondered if anybody knows anything about this unit type.

The main things I want to understand are:

- is this unit a standard width? (as a very rough guess I think approx 17cm between rack fixing screws - haven't got access to check at the mo) for each row/plate.

- if these units are standard, are network switch units and HF amplifier units available which fit these rack types?

- Unit 'F' called an 'audio module' has one cat5 input and 4 cat5 outputs. There are sprung push buttons for selecting each of the four outputs. My question here is, is this unit used for switching small Hifi signals and does this mean I would need to connect RCA to RJ45 adapters to Hifi units in the rooms where audio is being fed from or fed to?

hope someone can help! :o)

Many thanks,

Andy

* just came back to add that I've accidentally attached a photo that is on it's side - apologies.

Re: ITT patch panel knowledge ... please help!

The ITT Cannon system was discontinued about 6 or 7 years ago, it was a bit clunky in both size and the way it achived things.

From memory the TV module was an earlier version of the Loftbox (two boxes rather than one) and the Audio was literally just Amplified audio in split 4 ways to either of the outputs depending on the button that was pressed.

Finally, No, the panels are not standard width at all, neither wide enough to be 19" or short enough to be nice and small and domestic.

Hope that all helps.

Hi V,

Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated. I've not managed to find anybody else who knows about these boxes!

I thought the panel must be a relic now as I couldn't find anything on the net about it. The TV module (coax distribution panel?) seems to have been removed as there are a handful of coax cables presented inside the cablinet that aren't connected to anything.

Do you know where I could get some specific information about the audio module? My feeling is still that it's likely that small signals would be passed into the audio module (via the RJ45 plug input). I'm inclined to think this mainly because I wouldn't have thought the UTP cat5 to the rooms around the house would be suitable for speaker cable voltages??

In this case I'm guessing that 4 pins would be used for the small signals (two grounds, one left channel and one right channel) and that the audio module would connect these signals through to which ever of the four outputs are selected using the push buttons. This way upto four rj45 ports around the house could be fed a stereo low level signal. Hifi's in each of the four rooms could then be connected by stereo rca leads.

Thanks again,

Andy

Re: ITT patch panel knowledge ... please help!

Andy,

I think you might be right about the audio, although it is possible to get upto about 15 Watt carried over a cat5e pair (but not really recommended)

In terms of the TV / Coax module once you have identified the cables it should be easy to replace it with a current version.
