Faulty TV or Loftbox - interference

Hope this is the right place to post this. Have just moved to a new flat with a pre-installed Loftbox. We're not using Sky. In the lounge, I've split the aerial downlead, one split going to the lounge TV, and the other returning to the Loftbox for distribution to the rest of the flat.

My LG M2794DP TV doesn't work on DTV when connected any of the rooms that are fed by the Loftbox. I put it into analogue mode, and I can see the picture, but there's lots of interference. No wonder DTV doesn't work at all.

But - my 37" LG LCD works perfectly when plugged into the same sockets via the same coaxial cable. So, it's the TV you might say.

However, when I plug the 2794 into the main aerial socket in the lounge (the Loftbox downlink), it works. So, it can't be the TV you might say.

FWIW, the 2794 *was* working for a while, plugged into the radio socket of a "slave" socket, as I didn't have a gender changer, and I only had a male-male coaxial flylead. I think it's been "funny" since I moved it into the TV socket with a gender changer, but I'm not 100% sure.

Can somebody shed some light on this saga? I just don't get it.

Re: Faulty TV or Loftbox - interference

Is the loftbox powered itself, does it have a little red LED on it or not.

Loftboxes can be powered by the Sky box, but obviously not having one would mean that it may not be powered.

Should be less than a tenner for a replacement PSU.

Re: Faulty TV or Loftbox - interference

Hi and thanks for the reply. The Loftbox is powered up via a PSU, it has a red light on it, and as I said ^^, another TV works perfectly when connected to the Loftbox-"powered" sockets in the bedrooms, so it "can't" be the Loftbox. But something's not working properly. Any other clues?

I take it you have tried to adjust the gain on the loftbox?

Er, no. Didn't know that was a setting. I didn't install it, it's a newly-built flat. Where is it and how do I set it? Also, another TV works well with the loftbox, doesn't that rule the loftbox out? I returned the TV to ebuyer as faulty - I hope I didn't make a mistake.

Re: Faulty TV or Loftbox - interference

It is usually a knob you can twist to adjust the amplification level. And as you know, different TVs have different levels of sensitivity especially when it comes to digital signals.

And it doesn't cost you a dime to try!

Re: Faulty TV or Loftbox - interference

LoftBoxes usually don't have a gain adjustment on them.

Things certainly point to a faulty screen, with a dodgy uhf input.

Re: Faulty TV or Loftbox - interference

I had a look at the Loftbox. There is no gain adjustment, but there is an earth stud which the installer hasn't bothered with. How important is it?

Also, replacement TV should be on its way soon, which will possibly make this discussion irrelevant.
