new TV install DIY, bundling of wires & in-wall trunking

Hi everyone.

Have a bit of a dilemma, my front room is a mess as I have chased out one of my walls ready to install some trunking for the wires - will plaster over when done!

However I read that certain cables within trunking should not be touching or near each other as this could distort pictures and cause other problems, the last thing I need is to have to hack the wall to pieces again!

Setup so far is, Plasma G10, Xbox360, Headphones with optical into xbox (wireless), Panasonic DVD and cinema system, freesat box, and other stuff in the future possibly.

So any advice would be GREATLY appreciated!

Many thanks indeed!

It is only really power that should kept away from other cables.

Use good quality coax as the cheap stuff can leak signals.

Hi vex thanks for the advice. Is coax the wire for the TV signal from the aerial/dish?

having freesat installed soon does that mean you are suggesting replacing the wiring from the dish to the TV myself?

Re: new TV install DIY, bundling of wires & in-wall trunking

Hi Vex,

having just done this myself (I'm sat in a room thats about to be plastered as I type this!) I know the feeling on what to do, or not.

My sparky who has done quite a lot of AV installs has kept the 240v about 6 inches usually and 4 where not possible from the AV/cables.

I've got 2 x HDMI, 1 x component and 3 x audio cables behind the TV now.

Note I only need 1 x audio and 1 x hdmi, all of the others are for future planning (the extra audio in case I get a sound bar, the spare HDMI because you never know if you need one, and the component as an alternative HD source if needed).

Good luck on the install, the guys on here help a lot

cheers

Oooo also take a look at the other threads I've asked about, I've also purchased a HDMI switcher with VGA and component input, I'll be using this for my Mac Mini (media TV) and Wii

cheers

I would suggest up-dating it, it would mean that you are ensuring both the best cable and signal possible.

WF100 is the stuff we use.

generally we try for a minimum of 12 inches separation of AC and low voltage cabling.

and if the cables have to cross, they cross at 90 degrees.

Great stuff thanks chaps!

Billy..

What exactly did you do? I am doing this next week. Plan to put plastic trunking in the wall so I can just thread cables through as and when needed in the future

Re: new TV install DIY, bundling of wires & in-wall trunking

Hi Vex.. just called the installers and they use CT100 normally, they said there is no diff in quality between the two, just wondered what your thoughts are?

Is WF better or just different?

Re: new TV install DIY, bundling of wires & in-wall trunking

Technically there is no difference.

We prefer the WF stuff becuase it is more resilient on site during initial installations, shouldn't be a problem for your install.
