Advice needed on install - cheers!

Hi people, I'm just wondering if possible you could advise me on my wish-list - after trundling thru the internet I found this forum and put out a few emails to some installers who've yet to get back to me on a price.

Basically I'm moving out in the next month or so and would like to have a permanent home cinema in my lounge. I've asked for a quote to install a ceiling mounted projector and a fixed frame screen, setup of the components and hiding of the wires through trunking like the d-line stuff.
Also the fitting of 3 of these (remote controlled blackout blinds)

I know it's a hard to quote without seeing the job entailed but how much roughly would something like this cost to do?

The components I've set my heart/budget on are:

Themescene HD20
Beamax A Series velvet - either the 106" or the 120" yet to decide!
Kef IQ90 Floor standers
possibly the matching centre aswell..
BKELEC Monolith DF
Kef IQ3 (already got a pair)
Harmon Kardon AVI 250 Amp (already got)
Technics SH-AC500D (already got)

I've requested a demo at a local store in Colne called Roy jowetts just waiting to hear back from them so I can go and see them in action. Just wanted to know what other peoples views were on the bits I've chosen. I mainly decided upon the Kef IQ90 as I have the Kef IQ3' atm in my bedroom and in my opinion for the money I paid they are great, much better than the Kef 3005 eggs my dad has down stairs (I think)

Also the main concern I have is would my amplifier be upto the job? I've had it for about 2 years now and it's been great and works well with the decoder I've got, it's THX cert I was told that warrants 100w per channel? I can't really complain if it won't run the proposed setup considering I bought both the decoder and amp for £30

Any help would be much appreciated before I take the plunge!

Re: Advice needed on install - cheers!

Just an update -

after thinking it over I've figured it might be a ballache to try run a component,hdmi,dvi-hdmi cable up the wall into the ceiling and across the attic and back into the projector. Reason being it would be rented accomodation so I don't really want to have to drill a big hole to fit the cables through, whereas if I did upgrade my amp I would only need to bother with 1 hdmi cable to the projector. Has anyone got any better ideas as to how to hide the cables perhaps even without drilling? I know I suggested trunking above but I think it might look crap with the trunking running up the back wall to the projector and then across the roof.

The amps i've been looking at are the Denon 2310 and the Onkyo TX SR807. Could anyone give me a brief outline as to which would better suit me? I've read through the specs and im clueless as to what the pro/cons are, other than the Onkyo which has a higher wpc. I believe that would be better suited driving the front KEFIQ90s.. correct me if im wrong.

thanks!

Re: Advice needed on install - cheers!

The only advice I could give is pay the rent for 6 months before you spend that kind of money.

Re: Advice needed on install - cheers!

Well considering you don't know my financial circumstances I would say that's quite a ridiculous comment to make.

Let's just say I can pay the rent for the next 2-3 years, and the house is down for 12 months.

Thanks for the warm welcome, nice to see that after 6 months of viewing the forums and finally having the need to make an account myself - i've had no input other than from a pomptious arse.

Re: Advice needed on install - cheers!

In answer to the question have it installed properly and just fill the holes re paint befor eyou move out. Simple solution really... one word of warnign with rented accomation you may need to double check the power situation as rented house now often have to have annual electrcial inspections.

Re: Advice needed on install - cheers!

When you refer to the electrical yearly inspection what exactly do you mean?

I gather they will check the electrical side of things - but if I'm not running any electrical cables or installing any new ones, I shouldn't see any problems? Unless you mean that the electrician could be the landlords mate, and could inform him of the install?

the only thing I intend to get put in that will go near electrics is a 2-gang Lutron Rania IR that i'll pair up with the Harmony 1100 and the Somfy RF blinds (battery powered ver)

unless there is a plug socket on the ceiling your probably going to need some power to Projector I'm not a fan of massive flex cords prefering to do it properly but you coule use a masive flex if required.

Before you proceed any further and unless you're fully detached, I'd check the level of sound insulation between yourself and your neighbors, you don't want to get to know them for all of the wrong reasons.
