Sony Trinitron kv-x2552u tuning problem

Hi,
Does anyone know how to tune the TV with the RM-670?
I recently bought this TV and remote second hand but the remote control is so weird-looking that I cannot work out how to operate it for tuning all the channels.
Please help if you can!
Thanks

Re: Sony Trinitron kv-x2552u tuning problem

hi,
thanks for your reply.
there is no button that says MENU, there is nothing obvious that you'd press on it. i have tried a combination of buttons but to no avail.
it is a sony remote RM670, not a replacement.
any other ideas?

Re: Sony Trinitron kv-x2552u tuning problem

My records show that the RM670 is not the correct remote for that model. It should be a RM816.Many Sony remotes will work different models but not all the functions that you require. This often happens when sets are moved to a different area and although they worked ok previously they need retuned to a different transmitter and the problem then shows up.

Being a TV repair man I can 100% tell you that remote RM-670 will not tune that model TV.

You will need to get the right remote that has a "Menu" button on it as that's the only way to get the TV into tuning mode, try a well known auction site for a used good remote search "Sony RM-831"

The proper remote has 2 sides and slides out of a plastic holder.

Enclosed is a picture of the proper RM-831 you want.

Hope that solves your issue.

Re: Sony Trinitron kv-x2552u tuning problem

Thanks for your replies.
However, does anyone know how one would tune any TV sony model with the rm670. It is worth a try! I cannot work out any of the non-numeric buttons, and one of those must be right for tuning. I would like to give it a go before throwing the remote away (bought from ebay too!).
Thanks a lot,
laxime

Hi

The RM-670 WILL NEVER tune in your TV.

The only Sony TV's the RM-670 will tune are the ones that had buttons under the front flap, you had to press a button under this flap which bought up a tuning / menu, you could then use the remote (RM-670) to search and store ect, this is why Sony never put the "Menu" button on this remote as TV did not need it.

Later model TV's like your KV-X2552u Sony added the "Menu" button on the remote control and got rid of the button under front flap, proberbly to save money and time.

Re: Sony Trinitron kv-x2552u tuning problem

HI again,
I went and bought the model suggested off ebay (rm 831) but it doesn't seem to work on the TV either. In fact, I was able to operate more functions from the RM670. The 831 seems to work, as many of its controls do work, but when I press Menu nothing happens.
Any ideas?
I now have the tv plus two RC and none of them seem to work...

You need the RM816 as advised earlier in the thread.

Re: Sony Trinitron kv-x2552u tuning problem

if menu isnt working, then try the keys under the top flap of the RM670,
they look like an open diamond and closed diamond..

Has been a while since i saw a KVX2552 but it might be the earlier AE1 chassis that didnt use menus.

Re: Sony Trinitron kv-x2552u tuning problem

Hi
I am going to attach two images of the three remote controls I have (two are of either side of the rm831 and the other one is the rm670) to see if anyone out there can advise on what to do this time, and to avoid confusion.
I can find no flap on the rm670 (and nothing like a diamond shape).
I would rather do this before going to buy a new model as the advice so far hasn't solved the issue.
I look forward to any more comments.
Thanks!
