£500ish - 28" or 32"

First of all i would like to say hello as this is my first post, so Hello all

Will have around £500 burning a hole in my pocket come the end of the month and i think its time to bite the bullet and get rid of the portable. So as you can gather im new to this.

I dont know whether to get a 28" or a 32". 50Hz or 100Hz etc

I would be willing to go a little above my budget if it were a good deal.

I would be using the TV for mostly DVDs,Sky, Xbox etc.


Any help for this newbie would be greatly appreciated

You don't need 100hz on a 28" set. Personally if you've got room I'd say look out for a bargain 32" 50hz set by one of the better brands. Something like a Panasonic or Toshiba.

Hi there sigur there are a couple of recent threads on £400 mark sets have a read the 32" version of the 28" that are circa £400 should be about £500 so have a look see!

I have just bought the Philips 6517 and it suits me.

I think it might help you to read the "help for a newbie" thread which charts the story of buying a T.V warts and all.

I notice you were going to buy from panther but if you add the delivery costs + a 5yr warranty you may well get it cheaper elsewhere.
Or if you dont want a warranty some of the internet dealers may not charge delivery thus making buying from them a cheaper option(Robertsons I think).

You should also read threads on price matching which may be of interest but think I checked and you could not get the 6517 price matched at John Lewis(free 5 yr warranty or House of Fraser but worth rechecking.
Also a thread about using barclaycard to buy + price match.

Lastly,if you do opt for the 6517 ensure the T.V stand has been updated as the stand was on recall.
This all documented on the help for a newbie thread.

Sorry to say that if you went to JL and wanted the bigger TV you probably had a wasted journey as JL don't stock the 32" 6517 as far as I have been told (by JL).

Yup they dont stock it

Might have to go for Pantheronline now.
