hi all
just thought you might want to know that the Sony KD32DX40(S) 32" set will be on offer at makro next week for £599[+vat] [so around £703-ish ].
i'm actually in the market for a new set [as some of you may have already have seen in my other thread he he] i was pretty sure i was gonna go for the KV32FX68 [if i can get hold of it at John Lewis n price match to techtronics just not sure if jl sell it or not...] what do you peeps think? is this one at makro generally regarded as a better set?
all views welcome
thanks guys

i'd be interested to know too. i haven't checked though but since only just aquiring a makro card i have found that you can find cheaper prices at the usual suspects on the net.
once you add the vat i hasten to add. just recently they had a set in which was £649 plus vat. searched the web and found it for £650 incl. vat.
just so you know makro not always the cheapest.

yeah
thanks for that. i know y'gotta be careful...damn that vat! lol
i found some similar prices [some as close as around 10-20 to the makro one...] but there where plenty flogging it for a lot more
just thought members might be interested...in case their 'usual' stockist is one of the very culprits still selling it for the wrong side of 800 even...ouch
don't suppose anyone knows which i should go for do they please? the fx68 or the dx40...???
thank you!

It's a great set got one myself. It has digital and analogue tunners, is the KV just analogue, can't remember? Anyway digital is the way to go and the pic is great for digi and dvd. That's a fine price as well, payed over £1000 for ours over a year ago. I always prefer sony pics to others, the trinitron tube and that, you can't see the pixels as easily (as on other tellys) at closer viewing distances so the pics always seem smoother IMO plus the contrast ratios are really good because of the shadow grille (as opposed to mask).

Personally I don't know what the fuss is about Trinitron nowadays. Toshiba and Panasonic sets at least will match or beat the Sony sets for picture and you never ever see a trinitron line on them. A friend has the KD28DX40 I think and the picture is good but not great. Check out this review which shows in picture terms this model is only ok by Sony standards anyway; http://www.whatvideotv.com/testbench...KD-32DX40U.php |

I have the kd32dx40(u) whats the difference between u and s anyway?
And I'm quite dissapointed, every input (composite, s-video) apart from rgb has bad colour bleed , nothing to do with leads or anything, definatly the set.
Also has a bad flicker in the bottom left of the screen when playing a 60 hz source.
Have to switch speakers off in the menu every time you switch the set on if you have an external amp hooked up to the speaker out jacks.
Probably just a roque set but still...
After 3 replacemants (admitedly tosh'es) cant be bothered replacing it with the retailer.

I find that composite, SVideo, or PAL look awfull on my DX20 unless I switch to MOVIE mode as SVM ruins the picture.
But I rarely don't use RGB (DVD, DTTV Tuner, Pace Twin all RGB)
Seen no 60Hz problem though

| As regards the "trinitron line" I think this is a small trade off which most people don't see. The only reason it's visible is because there are only usually only 2 or 3 horizontal lines (depending on size of screen) as opposed to the equivalent of a line for every pixel element as on conventional tvs. This is why the contrast levels are higher on sonys IMO. The shadow mask (lines up as well as across) as opposed to the shadow grille (lines up but only one or two across) appears darker in all situations even on all white scenes. Also vertical bars of colour on the grille is far more solid/less pixelated than conventional triangular pixel arangements of RGB.
Why is it that all the high end PC monitors encorporate Trinitron technology?
As regards the review link posted. Yes I read the review, only real criticisms are of the analogue tuner. IMO analogue is analogue, display it on a 32" set and your bound to worsen the picture with all the snow and other interfearance. As regards the softness of digital pics is this not something that should be emulated. Softness is often about true resolution not exagerated pixel plus type offerings from the likes of Philips. You need an independent source like dvd to really display the bonuses of one tube technology over the other but I'm sure this is where Sony come into there own.
Anyway it's what looks good to the person who's buying the telly whatever make. For me Sony's always look better.
